Jump to the full entry & travel map Kruger National Park, South Africa Early morning pack up of 13 relations, 4 cars and who knows how many kilos of supplies. One car was having serious trouble so our game views on the way to the camp were slightly obscured by big clouds of black smoke billowing from the car infront. Our first spotting in the camp was a leopard in a tree - so unusual especially at 3pm in the afternoon. Our rondaval looked pretty basic after the Kyle residence where we did our cooking and socialising. Waust rolls prepared late at night in preparation for a 4am wakeup to go on an organised game drive. Freezing - how glad am I that mum is super prepared with blanket. We see Lion on the road and Elephant and Rhino. We have the torch taken from us by a guy at the back who doesn't think girls can do it and 'he goes on numerous hunts' except he couldn't point the light at an animal if it bit him and shines it straight into the bus instead! The next day we are driving ourselves and the gates open at 5 30 so we have a lie in until 5am! Except similar to yesterday we see nothing much until about 11am when we stop for lunch. On the way back to retrieve the Kyles we see Buffalo, Elephant and Rhino. 9 hours we spend on the game drive! Enough time to drive to the Mozambique coast! Monday mum and I have a pretty close encounter with a pair of Elephants who split and one comes out a bush about 10m infront of us. We turn back after ...

While she was working I spent the week exploring Cape town - going back to Kauk bay and Fish Hoek with Mops. I got to see Penguins at Boulders beach after seeing just 1 last year. We also hit the sunset at Hout Bay after going over Chapman's peak. Wine and salad overlooking the beach and water. Friday night we hit Signal hill on our way to night out. First thing Sat Bri and I get up to go running on top of Rhodes memorial before my flight to Joburg. I never thought I would enjoy running so much but the view made it worthwhile. By Jared Wright A self drive holiday is always more relaxed with more freedom to do your own thing at your own time. Especially in South Africa where there so many absolute picturesque little towns and the most beautiful coastal roads that will be missed on bus and plane travel. There is always much more freedom on a holiday when you are driving yourself. In a picturesque country like South Africa, this is a real advantage that lets you see parts of the country not seen on organized tours. Driving is done on the left in South Africa. The maximum speed limit is 120km/h. Most major roads are in a good condition. Highways with at least two lanes going both sides connect many cities and towns. You may pass through toll gates on some of these highways that will charge around 110-150 Rand depending on the route. These roads will be top notch as a result and will have regular One Stops. A One Stop is a highway facility where you can stop for some food, fill your car and freshen up. There is no requirement to take the toll roads with free roads being available that will get you to the same destinations. These will also pass through some smaller towns and give you a chance to see something different. In general the roads won’t be in as good a condition. There are few things you have to be aware of while driving on South Africans roads. South Africans are fairly relaxed about following the road rules, either driving too fast or too slow. Pede ...

Right from the floor of GDC, EA Mobile announced that 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa will be released for the iPhone and iPod Touch on April 27! Those attending the event (unfortunately I wasn’t there) had a chance to play the game, though I’m guessing it was not the build EA was demoing. PocketGamer was there but due to some NDA (I guess), they cannot share what they know at this stage. We do expect this to be the best FIFA game released to date. In other words, graphics should be slightly improved and possibly even the gameplay. Of course, you’ll be able to play with any of the teams participating at this year’s World Cup. EA is known to license all the players, ensuring “authentic” look and feel. Price was not unveiled, but we know that FIFA 10 is selling for $9.95 and I would expect this release to follow the trend. As soon as we get first screenshots, we’ll definitely share them. Stay tuned, k? A South African sex worker has gone to court, saying she was unfairly sacked by a Cape Town massage parlour. Known as Kylie, she was dismissed for choosing her clients and spending time with her boyfriend who did not pay for her services. The judge said he was not sure how a person engaged in an illegal activity could challenge her dismissal in court. But Kylie's lawyer said her case was about unfair dismissal, not whether selling sex should be legalised. Several previous courts have refused to hear the case, on the basis that sex work is illegal. Three judges at the Labour Appeals Court are now considering whether they can intervene. "When dismissed you are made to stop with something criminal... but then you say: 'Please protect me from someone who is stopping me from doing something criminal' - it doesn't makes sense to me," said Judge President Raymond Zondo. Kylie has spent seven years trying to seek redress after being sacked in 2003. She is reported to have since left the profession. ...
