    Expansion teams seldom win championships in their first year of existence, but Somerset Post 228 smashed that mold to smithereens Sunday morning at Donaldson Field, defeating South Attleboro Post, 9-8, to win the American Legion Junior state championship, two games to one. The Somerset kids now advance to the New England Regional tournament, which will open on Friday, Aug. 15 at McCarthy Stadium in West Warwick, R.I.. Somerset is scheduled to meet the Connecticut state champion at 10 a.m., the very first game of this double elimination tournament. With his pitching staff in shambles, because of injuries and fatigue, Somerset manager Bob Ferris had to mix and match quite a bit in this series, particularly in this game. Adam Ledoux, who had thrown sparingly this summer, started and pitched three solid innings until Post 312 began getting to him in the fourth, scoring four runs to tie the game at 6-6. C.J. Cordeiro, who was the starter on Friday, came on and pitched out of trouble in the fourth and then tacked on a scoreless fifth before giving up two in the top of the sixth. He ended up with the victory.
