JPG is teaming with Soho Photo Gallery of New York City to promote Soho's Fourth Annual Alternative Processes Competition. The competition is open to U.S.-based artists at least 18 years of age, with the exception of members of Soho Photo Gallery. Soho Photo Gallery is the oldest artist-run photography gallery in New York City showcasing a broad spectrum of imagery by emerging and veteran photographers. It was established in 1971 by a group of photojournalists and avant-garde photographers who were seeking an alternative gallery space in which to exhibit work. Alternative process prints include (but are not limited to): Cyanotype, Van Dyke Brown, Tintype, Bromoil, Platinum, Palladium, and Polaroid image transfer. Digital prints, c-prints and silver prints are not eligible. If you have questions concerning eligible forms, you can email Margery Franklin . Photographer Dan Estabrook is judging the competition. He is recognized for his use of 19th century techniques to create innovative contemporary art. [CurbedWire Staff] PROSPECT HEIGHTS The Landmarks Preservation Commission will calendar the Prospect Heights Historic District on Tuesday, marking a huge step toward the landmark designation of the neighborhood. The Municipal Art Society, which teamed up with the Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Corporation in 2006 to push for the designation, issued a statement with this quote from the PHNDC's chairman: "The Landmarks Commission has obviously recognized the threat posed to the character of one of Brooklyn's most well-preserved brownstone neighborhoods. The pressure from the Atlantic Yards project and other recent developments are of grave concern to the hundreds of local residents who have written in support of historic designation for Prospect Heights."
