Talk about moot. On Sept. 16, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito Jr. and four other judges will hear the appeal of a verdict that was first rendered, oh, about 2,400 years ago—at the trial of Socrates. To refresh your memory, the philosopher Socrates was put on trial in 39.... ... Source: www.nhpr.org --- 33 days ago

Wikipedia’s entry on Socrates is clinical and a bit boring. I suppose that’s what an encyclopedia is supposed to be; just the facts, ma’am. That’s a shame because to the thoughtful reader of history and philosophy, I think, Socrates was a vibrant character and a source of as much laughter as inspiration. Inspiration He was neither rich [...] ... Source: thepit.typepad.com --- 41 days ago

If you have ever taken an introductory ecology course, you will no doubt remember C.S. Elton’s classic study of the periodic fluctations of lynx and hares. In a textbook* case of Lotka-Volterra predator/prey interaction, Elton found that lynx and hare populations in northern Canada followed an astonishingly regular 9-10 year cycle. Several years of [...] ... Source: gentlyhewstone.wordpress.com --- 5 days ago
If you’d been unfairly convicted of a crime and sentenced to be executed, and then had an opportunity to escape, would you do it? Should you do it? The word gadfly is ringing in my ears. That publication brought it to my attention in an article by that one. Then, sparks began to fly a little with this response. Im seeing a similarity between Socrates and the biblical representation of "Jesus" Ive had this fascination with Religion for a long time, most likely due to the fact that it was one of my primary experiences. My relationship with my grandparents can be defined that way, and I was very close with them during my early elementary years. I dont see the bible or religion as something you can literally interpret. But I do see value in some of the messages of the New Testament. Anyway....Today after class I found myself venturing in the library and I stumbled across many books about Socrates. Well, I read the first two chapters(Then left because I was dying of hunger....) and what I got out of it was really interesting. It seems to me that the greek society experienced the same sort of "Flux" or Pattern that we experience in contemporary society. (probably because america was founded on these similar democratic ideals and because people are people, mammals and they have a capacity to think whether in a broad perspective or local depending on past circumstance.) But anyway I found that really interesting. I also read about The Clouds, a parody by Aristophranes and how it poked at and genralized philosophers of that time period and shaped them into the character of Socrates. Hopefully I can find The Clouds somewhere, I would like to read it, it sounds funny. Simplification: But back to the idea of the Comparison between Socrates and "Jesus" I ...
