Bone Marrow Transplant. 2008 Aug 18; Authors: Bieri S, Roosnek E, Helg C, Verholen F, Robert D, Chapuis B, Passweg J, Miralbell R, Chalandon Y In total, 124 adult patients in remission after allogeneic hematopoietic SCT (HSCT) participated in a cross-sectional study to assess health-related quality of Life (HRQL). Assessment of HRQL was carried out using two questionnaires: the (EORTC QLQ-C30) and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy (FACT) with specific modules for BMT (FACT-BMT). Transplanted patients differed from healthy controls in many HRQL-related dimensions in the EORTC QLQ-C30: Social functioning 73.4 versus 85.8, P<0.0001; role functioning 74.6 versus 83.3, P<0.004; physical functioning 83.9 versus 89.9, P<0.001; emotional functioning 72.2 versus 82.8, P<0.0001 but were not significant for global HRQL 71.2 versus 75.3, P<0.03. In total, 60% of the patients returned to work after HSCT; 31% part time and 29% full time. Age at HSCT and employment status were significantly associated with HRQL. Other factors such as disease and disease stage and especially the occurrence of late complications did not impact the perception of HRQL. This study suggests that the perception of HRQL after HSCT differs from the general population. When the Wii console first came out, everyone and their mother commented on how stupid the name was. It still is to be perfectly honest, but after a couple of years we have grown more accustomed to hearing it. But imagine what it would be like if your legal name was Wii? Believe it or not, a guy named Wii Yatani has had the now famous moniker since birth, and he claims that Nintendo's console has changed his Life for the better. "When I was growing up, I had a pretty difficult time," he said. "I just found when I was introducing myself to people, it was a little awkward." No kidding. He isn't the first guy with the name though. An MTV Multiplayer article points out that there were several uses of the name in the past. However, as far as anyone can tell, he is the only person mentioned in the English-language media with the name. Not surprisingly, when the console first came out, all of his friends got back in touch with their inner Jr. High School student and began opening up old scars with "wee-wee" jokes and the classic "Oh, Wii, are you going to go home to play with yourself?" Of course, I accepted their invitation (a little card they gave me) and went over to their gym called “Crunch.” ... I thought this was a very interesting way for “Crunch” to capitalize on the 24hr fitness shutdown. When I went over to Crunch they had me fill out a little card with some of my basic information; they must have had over 100 24hr fitness customers come in throughout the day. Now Crunch has all of their information and can try to sell them on their gym. Of course, I only saw the outage at 24hr fitness today, if it has been going (or will go) on for a few days then Crunch can potentially get hundreds of people to migrate gyms.
