Also on Oct. 16 the entire Channel lineup will change except for the local channels and a few like QVC. They are basically forcing you to get expanded basic by moving TBS, Weather Channel, etc. to expanded. I remember not long ago basic cable was pretty decent but now you pay like $20/month for about 15 channels. Hello All, I'm currently a RCN subscriber, locked into their 2yr deal which included (Internet 20MB, Full Digital Pkg w/HD Box, No Phone).. I signed up for this deal almost six months ago, and before the latest "Crush" we received every if not ALL the channels. Since the Crush, RCN has revamped their Channel lineups. I now do not receive Discovery HD, Smithsonian HD, HDNet, HDNet Movies, MGM HD, Universal HD. When I signed the contract and before the crush I had ALL of these channels. In order to receive these channels now I need to pay an additional $9.99 for what they now call the Premium HDTV. I'm pretty sure this is a breach on RCN side of the contract and grounds for termination. Some of the reasons I'm considering this is 1) RCN Tech/Customer service is absolutely terrible, calling the 18003RDWORLDCOUNTRY line drives me insane.. 2) Countless Tech/Contractor mess-up with my exteriors lines, thus very poor signal. 3) My apartment is currently fully lit for VerizonFIOS and the latest deal I received from there is VERY competitive with what I'm already paying for RCN. At least, that's when they're coming to my house, according to a flyer I received in the mail from Verizon yesterday. Here are some of the new channels, as near as I can make out (Verizon didn't provide a complete list of the new channels, just an overall guide with the new and old channels together): USA HD, TBS HD, FX HD, a handful of sports channels, CNN HD, CNBC HD, Fox News and Fox Business Network both in HD, Science Channel HD, Smithsonian Channel HD, History Channel HD, Bio HD, The Weather Channel HD, QVC HD, Sci-Fi Channel HD, A&E HD, as well as a handful of movie channels, such as Starz Comedy HD. And it looks like all the HD channels are moving to new locations on the dial. My HD channels are currently in the 800's, but will be relocated to the 500's and 600's. I must say that I have been rather jealous of the new HD channels that have been rolled out by Verizon’s FiOS service around the rest of the country, starting with Indiana at the end of June and culminating with the 100 Channel roll out in New York and North Jersey in August. Imagine, 100 HD channels (now 102) together with loads of HD VOD. Here in the Southeast Pennsylvania region, the roll out was delayed several times, first from July to August 25th and then to September 11th. What a day to pick for a roll out BTW! As the day approached, one had to wonder whether it would be delayed again. Then I began to read reports about the roll out in Delaware and South Jersey having issues with missing channels and technical issues such as intermittent pixelation and blocking. However, lo and behold, when I turned on the TV (recently) I was greeted with a total of 55 new HD channels! All the new HD channels were there along with many that we were not supposed to receive until the second rollout, such as all the HBO channels in HD including the east and west feeds. The same was true of Showtime, Cinemax and Starz. Simply outstanding. In addition, we now get CNN HD, TBS HD, The BIg Ten Network in HD, Science Channel HD, Smithsonian HD, History Channel HD, Animal Planet HD, TLC HD, Lifetime HD, Sci-Fi HD, Bravo HD, The Weather Channel HD, Tennis HD, WFN HD, MAV HD and VS/Golf HD. Filed under: Cable , Sports While Verizon already secured TBS HD for its FiOS TV customers prior to the start of the MLB playoffs, Charter Communications subscribers may or may not be so fortunate. Particularly for Brewers fans in Wisconsin, the desire need to land this station in short order is crucial to their well being, and according to corporate spokeswoman Anita Lamont, the carrier is working hard to make it happen. Currently, the station isn't slated to go live until October 14th, but that's obviously far beyond the date baseball fans are hoping for. In somewhat related news, Charter Wisconsin is also scheduled to launch Animal Planet HD, Movie Channel HD and Smithsonian HD in mid-October, so even if the whole TBS thing doesn't happen on time, not all joy is lost.
