New York has returned to its "true blue" status, providing a 22-point lead (58-36) to Barack Obama over John McCain, today's Siena poll finds. Just three weeks ago , Siena had Obama ahead by a mere five percentage points, leading Republicans to hope that a closer-than-expected presidential race might also improve their chances on maintaining control of the state Senate. But Obama increased his lead among New York Democrats and is also now ahead among independents, among whom he was tied with John McCain in the last Siena poll. McCain's favorability is negative for the first time since June (43-49), while Sarah Palin has dropped like a rock in this category with unfavorables at 52 percent (she was at 46-30 in September and 36-52 now ). Obama, on the other hand, has his highest favorable rating yet - 64-29 - and most New Yorkers (51-31) think he won his first debate against McCain. Here are the cross tabs . ...

The Siena Heights University women’s soccer team rolled to a 4-1 win over Davenport in Saturday’s Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference game, and in the process helped coach Scott Oliver earn his 100th career coaching victory. Amanda Marinello, Alison Septer, Katelyn Hawarny and Gemma Cowperthwaite each had goals in the milestone win for Oliver, who became the fifth current college women’s soccer coach in the state to win 100 games at the same school. Oliver, who has coached the Saints since 2001, has an 100-43-1 career record and has helped Siena to two WHAC titles, a pair of WHAC tournament titles, two NAIA Region VIII titles and a pair of appearances in the NAIA national tournament. Siena’s control was apparent early as they kept the ball in the Davenport zone for the first four minutes of the half and showed fluid passing. Whenever Davenport (1-6-1, 1-4 WHAC) was able to enter the Siena zone, the Saint defense quickly picked off the ball. Davenport’s play throughout the entire game was often physical and the Saints (7-3-1, 4-1-1) took numerous hard hits. “I think that we possessed the ball so well, that we were moving it so well, that that’s what they were forced to do,” Oliver said. “I think that is just a credit to our technical ability. We were exploiting them in areas and they had to foul us to stop us.” The Saints’ offense broke the scoreless tie in the 17th minute of the game when Marinello’s corner kick to the front of ...
