Yikes! Not much happening so far this season in this subforum. My first draft is this evening, so I thought I'd start a tread where we all can post sleepers, breakouts, busts, etc for the 2009 season. Feel free to include players who you think are overrated/underrated based on the Yahoo default ranking -- basically this is one thread to recommend players to own/avoid this year. I'll start things up: Underrated 23. Miikka Kiprusoff, G, CGY (Wasn't he a top 8 pick last year?) 28. Henrik Lundqvist, G, NYR (Top goalie for most of lastyear) 66. Brad Boyes, RW, STL (43 goals gets you ranked 66th?) 70. Bryan McCabe, D, FLA (Bad season last year in Leaf Nation, new location should clear his head) 74. Mike Ribeiro, C, DAL 84. Markus Naslund, LW, NYR (Down season last year, will be good for him to be rid of the lingering effects of Bertuzzi saga) 97. Tomas Vokoun, G, FLA (Another top goalie who I feel is way too low) 110. Kevin Bieksa, D, VAN (Injured for most of last season, but put up fantastic numbers the year before that) 155. Mathieu Schneider, D, ANA (Wherever he ends up, he's certainly better than 155th overall) 166. Shea Weber, D, NSH (Same as Bieksa, look for him to bounce back now that he's healthy) 225. While other sites are previewing "30 teams in 30 days," we decided to take advantage of the extra time off before the start of the season to bring you all 30 previews over the next three weeks. We're counting down in reverse order of finish from last season in each conference every weekday from now until October 3. Who's In: Ryan Jones, F (trade, Min) Who's Out : Chris Mason, G (trade, Stl), Alexander Radulov, F (likely gone, KHL), Marek Zidlicky, D (trade, Min), Darcy Hordichuk, F (trade, Car) What's New: Relatively speaking, the quick answer is not a whole heck of a lot. The Predators really did not do much on what you might call the positive side of things this off-season aside from re-signing players like Martin Erat , Ryan Suter , Shea Weber , Dan Ellis , Rich Peverly , and Jerred Smithson . So by and large the band that played to an 8th place finish in the West remains together. Two departed members stand out, however. Of the two, Marek Zidlicky is definitely gone. He was traded to Minnesota in exchange for former college star Ryan Jones and a second-rounder.
