With Monta Ellis' recent ankle injury, the Golden State Warriors are looking thin at point guard. Might the recuperating Shaun Livingston be the answer to the team's woes? There have been reports that the former Illinois star has looked impressive in recent workouts during the summer—impressive enough that Warriors General Manager Chris Mullin has visited Chicago to obtain his personal insight. At 6'7", Livingston is the league’s tallest point guard. The rest of the guard world trails behind by several inches. Of the NBA’s most notable guards, Gilbert Arenas and Chauncey Billups stand at 6'4", trailing Livingston by 36 centimeters. With Livingston’s amazing length, Golden State would have the tallest backcourt in the league with presumably Stephen Jackson, 6'8", at shooting guard. Shaun averaged 9.3 PPG, 5.1 APG, 1.1 SPG in 54 games during the 2006-07 season prior to suffering the infamous, catastrophic knee injury that caused him to miss the rest of the 2006-07 season and all of last year. While attempting a lay-up, Shaun came down awkwardly on his left leg and shattered his knee in three areas, severely halting his career. Marcus Williams, one of the Warriors' new additions this offseason by way of a trade with New Jersey, averaged 5.9 PPG, 2.6 APG, and 1.9 RPG during the 2007-08 season. Even with Marcus Williams coming over in the deal, I'm not convinced that the Warriors have a credible point guard. I was a fa ... Source: mbd.scout.com --- 11 days ago

by Marcel Mutoni In the wake of the bad news involving Monta Ellis’s ankle, the Golden State Warriors are understandably scrambling to come up with a contingency plan until their explosive guard returns to the court, sometime in the new year. They’re reportedly thinking of changing up the offensive scheme a bit - something about Corey Maggette and Stephen Jackson getting more shots - and are looking find a temporary replacement for the injured Ellis. I will do you the favor of not linking to Shaun Livingston’s Faces of Death -esque knee injury from a couple of years ago, but yeah, that guy could be part of the group who will soon be entrusted with the Golden State Warriors’ point guard duties until Ellis is healthy again. From The Mercury News : Mullin said he’s interested in Shaun Livingston and indeed will take a long-scheduled trip to Chicago to watch Livingston work out tomorrow. He said it wouldn’t worry him too much if Livingston can’t play immediately because he has enough ball-handlers, even without Ellis. While no one can say for sure what will happen with Livingston and his surgically repaired knee, the Warriors’ opening night starter appears to be, for the moment anyhow, Marcus Williams. Slowly step away from that ledge, Warriors fans! ... Source: www.hoopsvibe.com --- 27 days ago

What's going on with Livingston? The short answer is, I don't have any idea. No inside sources. No scoop. I have no idea how he is. Hell, I don't even know where he is. According to Art Thompson III , apparently promoted to Lakers 'blogger' at the OCR, he's been at Tim Grover's gym in Chicago for months, working out and now playing 5 on 5. But that would seem to contradict Citizen clipschamps report that he was playing at Pauley a couple weeks ago. ( Marty Burns of SI is another one who says that Livingston has been in Chicago 'for the past month'.) Here's what we think we know. According to the LA Times , the Clippers offered Shaun a one year minimum contract, which he turned down. He hasn't signed with anyone yet. The Nuggets and the Suns are two teams who have purportedly shown interest in the past, but there has been precious little about him in about a month. Which doesn't necessarily mean much. If you were Shaun Livingston or his agent, you'd definitely be betting and hoping on a better offer later in the summer. After all, it was only last month that he started playing one-on-one, and only recently that he's been playing five-on-five. The more proof he can offer that he's recovered (or at least on the road, with a decent map, maybe even a GPS), the better contract offer he's likely to command. The downside of course is that teams will make other moves in the meantime, but Shaun has the advantage of playing point gu ... Source: www.hoopsvibe.com --- 29 days ago

I thought Art Thompson III was a Clipper fan. Why then is he suggesting that Shaun Livingston join the Lakers? He says that Livingston is playing 5 on 5 and looking good. I thought clipschamps saw him play and was unimpressed. This makes no sense at all. Does anybody know something accurate about Shaun Livingston? Please basketball gods, dont let Shaun defect to the Fakers and become one of the best guards in the game. I don't know if I could ever forgive Clipper management for letting this fish fall off the hook. http://lakers.freedomblogging.com/2008/08/20/why-not-Shaun/#more-1363 ... I have always thought that Shaun Livingston had potential to be a great point guard and he was on track till the one of the nastiest knee injuries in recent memory put him out of action for the past year and a half. I have been wondering if this would become a Jay Williams situation but in the nba rumors section on ESPN today it has a piece about Livingston potentially working out with the Warriors. If this is true why not give Livingston a chance to work out for the Blazers. At worst he isn't ready to come back yet, at best you potentially get a former top 5 pick with room to go grow for what has to be a pretty substantial discount. ...

If the Sonics still played here and I still gave a shit (which I don't), I'd advise them to tender a short-term contract to free agent point guard Shaun Livingston, whose rights were renounced by the Clippers a couple days ago. He is now back to playing full-court with NBA players. I am sure he is still lots of work away from being fully back (if he ever will). http://lakers.freedomblogging.com/2008/08/20/why-not-Shaun/#more-1363 Could he be a 2 guard in the future? His vision and point guard skills would be an advantage for him from that position. Toronto does not have a young scoring guard of the future on the roster and Parker is on the wrong side of 30. Would it be worth a roster spot to give him the chance back in the NBA he needs, away from US media the pressure would be less and he would be on a playoff caliber team in the Raptors. Thoughts? ... Its no secret the Warriors are in desperate need of backcourt relief after Monta Ellis's injury, evident of general manager Chris Mullin flying out to Chicago to view comeback hopeful, Shaun Livingston in a private workout session. Across the states, the Indiana Pacers are also in need of a few materials, primarily three point shooting and an athletic power forward. By taking these two requirements into account, I created this potential trade that both teams would easily benefit from. I crunched the numbers and an Al for Jamaal trade wasn't exactly allowed by NBA measures. So to make the trade work, I threw in additional pieces to the trade to make the salaries intertwine. The trade scenario resembles this: Warriors send Al Harrington Kosta Perovic Cash To Indiana For Jamaal Tinsley Jeff Foster Harrington averaged 13.6 PPG, 5.4 RPG, and 0.2 BPG, playing in all but one game for the Warriors last season. Al came over along with Stephen Jackson in the infamous Mike Dunleavy, Troy Murphy deal that helped shape the Warriors franchise into the fast paced offense today. Kosta Perovic the seldom used Croatian forward, averaged 1.4 PPG and 1.9 RPG in 7 games last season for the Warriors. With the addition of Brandan Wright last season, rookie Anthony Randolph this season, and Chris Mullin forcing Don Nelson to play his younger core, Harrington has beco ...
