The Sharks open a three-game home stretch Saturday with the Connecticut Gamblers at Weymouth High at 7 p.m. After defeating the Brockton Bucs in a non-league game, the Sharks have dropped three straight to fall to 0-3 in the NEFL. The week leading up to last Saturday’s game was rough one. Team management released two lineman for undisclosed team violations and five offensive starters did not make the trip to Hartford due to other off field related personal or family issues. The Sharks were outplayed by the Connecticut Thunder from the opening whistle. The Thunder marched on their first drive to the Sharks 10 yard line until the Sharks dug in. Defensive back Jay Gracia picked off a Thunder pass in the end zone, but the call was nullified by a roughing the passer call. The Thunder went on to score and never looked back as they cruised to an easy victory, 38-0. Team owner Tom Deegan said he felt like his team was, “A little shell shocked by all the missing players.” He stated, “This is a working man’s league. Some players had family obligations while others had to work. Obviously the team did not travel well. We’ll regroup back home, win three straight and be right back in this thing.” The Gamblers come to town next week boasting a strong defense, but like the Sharks, had trouble putting up points. Offensive coordinator AJ Grant said he feels his team will be better prepared to put up some points as he’ll have all his weapons bac ... Source: www.boxxet.com --- 9 hours ago

With killer Sharks and angry dogs mostly out of the news this summer, skyrocketing gas prices have certainly filled the void of traditional summer fright stories. At least one of three stories seem to dominant our news cycles each summer: shark attacks, pit bull assaults, and horror at the gas pump. By end of summer hurricane season distracts us -- and then we learn that, despite the hype, the number of attacks by Sharks and pit bulls were no greater than usual. By the fall, gas prices tend to settle back to a mostly tolerable level. The news media gets blamed for overstating the threats, and the next summer we do it all over again. But this time the politicians are touting more offshore oil drilling to make gas cheaper, as falling gas prices might still not settle to a tolerable place. Which means fewer beaches to enjoy, resulting in fewer shark attacks. So next year we might have to count on revenge of the pit bulls for a summer thriller. ...
