I have an unhealthy obsession with the Beatles. So, naturally, when I discovered you could change the Adium dock icon, I scoured each page of the X-tras looking for a Beatles theme. Much to my suprise, and dismay, there were none! Well! Something had to be done. So I did what any loyal fan would do. I made one myself. Do you like it? Hate it? I'm not really happy with the hair. It's too bowl-cut. This one's based off Paul's uniform in Sgt. Pepper. I have versions in three other colors (for the other three uniforms), but I wanted to see if anyone even liked it before I submitted all four. ...

Morning Musume is going to cover "Pepper Keibu"?! This is going to be fun. How do I know? Simple: As we already know from "Morning Musume no Hyokkori Hyoutan-jima," the b-side to "Egao YES Nude," Berryz' "Dschingus Khan," W's early work, "LALALA Shiawase no Uta," and just about every concert performance and episode of "Berikyuu!"/"Uta Doki!" (even if some of the listed may or may not count as "covers" per se), H!P can do covers and they can do them good . How will Morning Musume are out with their second cover single? I see good fortune in the stars (speaking of stars, given its (the song's) significance, don't you dare bellyache about Takitty getting 70% of the lines (50% of that that 70% slice of the pie had better be shared with (if not, given to) Niigaki-san. If not, expect Gaki fans to riot and revolt). I may not have heard the original Pink Lady version but I fell in love with the song through GO!GO!7188's version. Those who have heard it know how kickin' awesome it is! I need not explain further. ペッパー警部 GO!GO!7188 As for the b-side, I'm not as familiar with the song as I am with the A-side but I sure hope it's a fantastic cover (but when was a H!P cover bad?). Plus, it'd better surprise me (even line distribution please, if this is fot Takagaki's fling and *insert random jab about Tanaka trying to steal the show from Gaki-san using her wota army*). One other hope: Great costumes and a stellar PV. (Wait a minute! That's two! Meh ...

'Having sympathy and understanding for what she goes through made me wanna write songs,' singer says of his wife, actress Paula Patton. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Robin Thicke Photo: MTV News For his LP Something Else, Robin Thicke found inspiration from two places: Motown records and the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. He hopes to capture that nostalgic flair on the album. "I mean with a little wind in our sails after having the success on the last album, we were all excited to go in [to the studio]," he said. "We wanted to have all the equipment set up, all the percussion instruments and all the guitars and have everybody ... just like kids in a candy store." This album, for Thicke, was about finding some peace and coming to terms with a world that he sees as unfair at times. "I really just wanted to achieve some healing, and I needed to be healed," he said. "I needed to believe in myself, and my wife — being an African-American actress and being African-American in this world — she faces a lot of challenges that I, as a white man, [don't] have to face. ... Having sympathy and understanding for what she goes through made me wanna write songs." Thicke also wasn't afraid to mix business and pleasure when he sat down to work on the album. For one song, "Beautifully Imperfect," he sought the advice of his wife, actress Paula Patton. "I wrote it with my music partner, who plays guitar, and my wife act ...

Good morning, readers. One of the reasons some album covers have entered the ranks of "iconic" is that they not only look the way the music folded within them sounds, but they also add something powerful to the sensory experience as a whole. At least we think so. How can the mysterious pantheon of characters on Sgt. Pepper's cover not inform the listening experience of "Lovely Rita" or "A Day in the Life"?  Once you started dissecting the significance of the lineup, from Edgar Allan Poe to Aleister Crowley and Sigmund Freud, how could you not want to deconstruct every song on that album? Sgt. Pepper's is one of many album covers celebrated in " A Sound Design: The Art of Album Covers " now on view at USC's Doheny Library. Close to 50 others, spanning genres and artists such as Raymond Pettibon and Andy Warhol, will be on display. We so love our CDs, but it sure was great before the art got small. -- Bettie Rinehart ...

Can't Buy Me Love The Beatles, Britain, and America Written by Jonathan Gould Trade Paperback , 672 pages | Three Rivers Press | Music | $15.95 | November 4, 2008 | 978-0-307-35338-2 (0-307-35338-9) Nearly twenty years in the making, Can’t Buy Me Love is a masterful work of group biography, cultural history, and musical criticism. That the Beatles were an unprecedented phenomenon is a given. In Can’t Buy Me Love , Jonathan Gould seeks to explain why, placing the Fab Four in the broad and tumultuous panorama of their time and place, rooting their story in the social context that girded both their rise and their demise. Beginning with their adolescence in Liverpool, Gould describes the seminal influences––from Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry to The Goon Show and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland ––that shaped the Beatles both as individuals and as a group. In addition to chronicling their growth as singers, songwriters, and instrumentalists, he highlights the advances in recording technology that made their sound both possible and unique, as well as the developments in television and radio that lent an explosive force to their popular success. With a musician’s ear, Gould sensitively evokes the timeless appeal of the Lennon-McCartney collaboration and their emergence as one of the most creative and significant songwriting teams in history. And he sheds new light on the significance of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band as rock’s first c ...

(11 votes - 3 comments - 143 views) Way back when they were young and cute.. Originally sung by the Beatles. WikiPedia: Aerosmith performed one of the first and most successful cover versions of "Come Together". It was recorded in 1978 and appeared in the movie and on the soundtrack to the film Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, which the band also appeared in. The single was an immediate success, reaching #23 on the Billboard Hot 100, following on the heels of a string of Top 40 hits for the band in the mid-1970s. However it would be the last Top 40 hit for the band for nearly a decade. ...

DT reader Naomi's comment below about the new album from The Jam founder Paul Weller led me to a nice Weller profile in the Times of London last week, which contains this baby naming strategy: [Weller] remembers saving for a year to buy the Beatles' Sgt Pepper's LP. "Thirty bob was a lot of money when I was 10." Soon after, he discovered the mod bands, the Kinks, the Who and cockney troubadours the Small Faces, whom he still adores. Weller tried to name his two-year-old son Stevie Mac Kenney Plonk after the first names of the Small Faces band members, but his girlfriend, Sami, wouldn't stand for it. As a compromise, the boy is called Mac. Trig Van Palin, you are not alone. The Modfather Returns [timesonline.co.uk] ...
