The Open University seeks to recruit a number of staff to an exciting new project to develop English Language competence in Bangladesh. English in Action is a nine-year project that seeks to promote personal and economic development within Bangladesh through enhancing competence in the communicative use of English. It is funded by the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DfID) and involves international partners. A number of staff are required for the initial three-year pilot phase (in the first instance), to develop and evaluate a range of schemes to support the teaching and learning of English through innovative uses of a variety of information and communication technologies. In particular, the learning and teaching of English in schools will be supported through teacher development activities and the creation and dissemination of resources to enhance English language acquisition. The Open University is also responsible for coordinating a wider programme of monitoring, research and evaluation studies being planned to assess the impact of the project and the extent to which it achieves its overall purpose and goal.
