South African rock band Seether has plenty of hit songs in their arsenal. So it’s funny that when they performed Sunday in the Civic Center exhibit hall, one of the songs that most roused the audience was their cover of Stone Temple Pilots’ “Creep.” But the more than 1,200 fans who turned out for the show heard plenty Seether’s original work, too – even though the show was littered with problems. The concert opened with a 30-minute set by Vancouver band State of Shock, which performed songs like “Too Pretty” and “Best I Ever Had.” A 40-minute set by Saving Abel, Mississippi rockers with an unmistakable bluesiness, followed. Saving Abel performed a handful of songs, including “18 Days,” which they dedicated to those serving in the military, and “Addicted,” currently their most popular song. But it was clear that most people were there to see Seether, which will mark its 10-year anniversary next year and which is still enjoying success from its latest album, 2007’s “Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces.” The band had a simple set-up: a large projector screen rolling various abstract images, and colored spotlights that sent funny shapes out onto the crowd and threw big shadows of lead singer Shaun Morgan on the walls of the exhibit hall. With more than 40 U.S. and world dates completed this year, hard rockers Staind have announced plans to bring the music back to the States in October. The new headlining run begins October 4 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD, and continues through December with a show at the Brown County Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Green Bay, WI. Before launching the trek, Staind will perform an October 3 solo show at Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, NY.
