My sister, fiance & my mother are in Chicago for her 2nd of 4 bridal showers. Her fiance just sent me a picture of the Sears Tower “Skydeck Ledge.” Wow! Wish I was there! The Ledge brings an exhilarating new experience to the Skydeck. At 1,353 feet up, The Ledge’s glass boxes extend out 4.3 feet from the skyscraper’s Skydeck on the 103rd floor, providing never-before-seen views of the city. An unmatched view is not all the Skydeck offers. From the moment visitors arrive they enjoy interactive and educational attractions that not only highlight the iconic landmark, but also celebrate Chicago’s sports, architecture, pop-culture, history, food, music and people. ...

on saturday my friends and i decided to spend the day downtown playing tourist so since we had never been up in the "Sears" Tower before that's what we decided to do. the skydeck is on the 103 floor (of 108) and the elevator up traveled at 24 ft per second. took us a measly 60 seconds to arrive from the ground floor. crazy. the views from the top are amazing although some how in the hour it took us to wait in line and get up there our beautifully sunny day turned completely hazy. totally our luck. we tried to time it with sunset but as you can see that really didn't work. anyways, i wanted to go up there for the chance to stand in one of the 4 boxes that make up "the Ledge". the same architecture firm that designed the building (skidmore, owings and merrill) came up with a way to construct 4 glass boxes that stick out around 4 feet from the side of the building. it was really cool to stand in the box and look down. made me miss skydiving. the 3 of us standing in the box looking down. (i'm the one in the yellow shoes, lol) a view from the 3rd box to the 4th box. they each stick out 4 feet from the side of the building. a 50/50 view. the left is outside of the box and the right is me standing in the box. ...

I haven't ever visited Chicago (well, I did drive through once, but I didn't even get off the freeway), but this really has me wanting to go. A Glass Ledge was opened earlier this year on the 103rd floor of the Sears Tower, giving you a view of some 1353 feet straight down to the street. ...

I just saw a news article saying that the Sears Tower will open it's glass-bottom "Ledge" tomorrow. I had heard about this a while back and I'm actually pretty excited about the idea. Personally, I think the Sears Tower is one of the coolest downtown attractions that Chicago has to offer. Not only is it one of the tallest buildings in the world, but it has a wonderful restaurant at the top and a cool view of the southern part of the city. I like the views from the Hancock center a bit more (it's closer to the lake), but seeing the Loop from 100+ stories up can't be beat. Speaking of the Sears Tower... does anyone like it's new name(The Willis Tower)? Honestly, I think it's ridiculous. Everyone knows it as the Sears Tower, and I'm going to refuse to use its new name as long as possible. ...
