This fall, Tower School eighth grader Whitney Thomson and her girls varsity soccer teammates continued the program’s long run of winning seasons, finishing with a record of 4-3-1. Also in Tower Sports The girls jayvee soccer squad finished the season with an outstanding record of 6-1-1. After the first two games of the season, the sixth and seventh graders won every game, outscoring opponents, 17-2. The boys varsity soccer club faced formidable competition this year, and continually rose to the challenge. The team’s 2-6-1 record does not truly reflect the hard-fought games, excellent goalkeeping and teamwork that developed throughout the season. The boys jayvee soccer team, made up of exclusively sixth graders, ended the season with a 5-3 record, also coming in third in the Fessenden Tournament. Hard work and team play helped them to compete with and defeat teams that were mostly made up of seventh and eighth graders. The cross-country team had five official meets. Although many of them were extremely close among top five finishers, they came away with one win. Two new highlights of the Tower season were the Salem Witch City 5K, with five Tower runners competing, not to mention the first annual Fun Run at the Tower. ...

Hingham football coach Paul Killinger hopes his team can finish up the right way and they appear that they are going to fulfill their coaches wish. The Harbormen are putting the pieces together in the second half of the season and will attempt to finish the season over .500 on Thanksgiving Day at home with Scituate. "We playing as a team and we will go into Thanksgiving and see what happens," said Hingham coach Paul Killinger. Scituate lost to Rockland in its Patriot Bowl game, 23-22 at Scituate. Hingham met Scituate earlier this year and the Harbormen fell to the Sailors, 28-14. "It is really strange," said Hingham captain K.C. Murphy. "I have never played the same team twice in a football season." "I guess it is an advantage. We have seen what they got and we are a different football team than when we played them. We have improved a lot, we have a lot more enthusiasm and intensity. We have a great chance to pull out a win on Thanksgiving." "It will benefit us a little," said Hingham captain Pat Creahan. "We did not play the well the first time we played them and we learned from it." "They have not faced our new offense yet and they have not changed much." The offense for the Harbormen exploded for over 500 yards as Hingham pounded out a 42-14 win over Middleboro in its Patriot Bowl match-up at Scituate. "It is more impressive than the score," said Killinger. "We had over 500 yards of offense. We have played well in the last fo ...
