The other day here we noted that Republican nominee-to-be John McCain keeps referring to the country of Czechoslovakia, which hasn't existed since 1993. Now, Sam Nunn, a veteran retired senator and an oft-mentioned Democratic vice presidential running mate with Barack Obama, is doing the same thing. His reference to the former country, which split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, was the third mention of Czechoslovakia during campaigning this week. A former chairman of the Senate Armed Forces Committee who could know better, Nunn was on the campaign trail in Indiana with Obama. "We in this country are about to, under this government, under the Bush administration, deploy [a] missile defense system in Poland and Czechoslovakia," Nunn said. Remember all that fuss about John McCain referring to Czechoslovakia, the European country that split up in 1993 into the Czech Republic and Slovakia? Supposedly, it was proof of his senility, rather than just an honest mistake. Well it turns out McCain isn't the only one. Any takers on a bet the media won't report this ? ... by Katie Fretland John McCain is not the only politician who can forget his European history while on the campaign trail. Yesterday, Sam Nunn, an oft-mentioned Obama vice-presidential candidate, referred to " Czechoslovakia " which has not existed since 1993. (See the video above to hear his gaffe). His reference to the former country, which split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, was the third mention of Czechoslovakia during campaigning this week. On Monday and Tuesday, McCain said he was concerned about Russia's reduction of oil supplies to the former country after an agreement with the United States on a missile defense shield. But Wednesday belonged to Nunn, a former Democratic chairman of the Senate Armed Forces Committee. He spoke while on the campaign trail with presumptive Democratic nominee Obama in Indiana. "We in this country are about to, under this government, under the Bush administration, deploy [a] missile defense system in Poland and Czechoslovakia," Nunn said. ... Barack Obama has been testing my patience a bit these days. From his vote on FISA to the notion that the government should ever limit a woman’s right to an abortion (tip - it’s never up to a bunch of politicians, never), I’ve been a bit frustrated. I'm still with him, so don't get all worked up, but I'm getting tired of defending him to my far lefty friends. Really tired. One potential decision, however, might just send me to scrape the bumper sticker off of my car. Apparently, on Obama's short list for vice president is the former Democratic... ...
