Written by Greg Wyshynski But if we're talking teams on the cusp of the postseason that could easily add Salary (if they so desire) in an attempt to become contenders, how about the Buffalo Sabres (currently at $6.8 million) and the Columbus Blue Jackets ($7.38 million)? Both franchises are better known as sellers t... Original story at Yahoo! Canada Sports . In the first season of the Salary Cap 2005/06, teams were adjusting to the new economic system and this made for some teams that had very tight finances as they were very close to the Salary Cap.  These teams were unable to a... NEW YORK - Rookie defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson suffered what Savvy called an "upper body" injury in the first period of Friday's 4-2 loss to the Rangers and will be evaluated on Saturday. If Hjalmarsson can't play Saturday in Washington, Matt Walker would make his debut. It will be interesting to see what happens if Hjalmarsson's injury is long term, perhaps a shoulder. Would Dale try to find a way to bring Cam Barker back from Rockford even though the Hawks are only about $1.5 million under the NHL Salary Cap with Barker having a $2.8 million Cap hit? ...

via 3.bp.blogspot.com   I haven't been around here much since the death of my laptop in June.  You're probably thinking, well, why doesn't she just get another one?  Ha!  Try doing that with no Salary!  Ha!  Seriously, though, I'm sticking around Ohio until Our Holy Election Day to help out with The Campaign, and though I do get a little bit of dough for that, it sure ain't enough for a new computer! If you are a UC student, you might have taken one of our shuttles last week to the Hamilton County Board of Elections.  You might have seen a short woman with a Reds shirt and Reds Cap running around campus trying to meet with people who could help spread the word that we were driving voters to vote (over 500 for the week!)  You might have seen her at Baba Budan's - here's a shout out to those folks because they were awesome to us!  Go there!  I missed most of the division playoffs because of Golden Week, but as the Reds weren't playing, I didn't care much, though I was hoping to see Griffey get to the ALCS.  And I wanted the Sausages.  I suppose I shouldn't say outloud that I want the Phillies and the Rays, because every team I root for seems to lose. via 3.bp.blogspot.com   Anyway, I wanted to post something because I'm in the mood for posting things because I have nothing to do until the game starts, and I thought I'd share some photos of the rally at Fifth Third Field on Thursday for those of you who haven't seen them.  I've nev ...

I've heard several posters state that the Panthers will probably not be able to sign Peppers, Gross and Gamble. But I've been thinking and I don't see why we cannot. 1) The Salary Cap increases every year. 2) Peppers contract is so high in terms of Salary Cap that even a huge contract will end up being less against the Cap. 3) Gross's current Cap number is also high due to him having the franshise tag placed on. A new deal will have a lower Cap hit. 4) Next season the panthers will not have a 1st round draft pick. While this Cap number isn't huge it still adds up. With this being said I see plenty of room to get Gamble and any of the other lesser known FA a raise and be under the Cap. Is my logic correct or am I missing something? ...

The Chicago Blackhawks placed goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin on waivers today. Khabibulin appeared to be the goalie on the way out after the Blackhawks made a surprising dip into the free agent pool and signed UFA keeper Cristobal Huet to a 4 year deal worth $22.5 million. Khabibulin was on the final year of a 4 year deal worth $27 million. The Blackhawks are believed to working on a trade for the Khabibulin but his high Salary makes moving him difficult, if not impossible. The Pittsburgh Penguins got some rough news today (as did NHL Fantasy Managers) when they announced that the club would be without star defenceman Sergei Gonchar for 4-6 months. Gonchar will undergo surgery to repair his left shoulder. Gonchar was injured during the a pre-season game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Penguins also lost defenceman Ryan Whitney till December with a foot injury. The Anaheim Ducks re-signed forward Teemu Selanne to a two year deal worth $5.25 million this week, just days after clearing Cap space by trading defenceman Matthieu Schneider to the Atlanta Thrashers. Selanne sat out more than half the season last year as he contemplated retirement, but with 26 games remaining chose to return to action. Your friend on ice, Captain Bosh ...

One more item: With the Rangers’ glut of forwards and lack of Salary Cap space, it appears Brendan Shanahan is in free-agent purgatory.
