The weather was crisp on Sunday at Lincoln SPEEDWAY, mild and cool on a typically hot and humid Labor Day weekend. To spice things up, there were $2,000-to-win Late Models double features. Polesitter Jason Feger dominated from the start of the first feature, stretching his lead to nearly a straightaway at times while weaving out of lap traffic. He took second to Steve Sheppard Jr. in the bonus race, a makeup that involved only those cars present at a July 27 rainout. The night got off to a good start, however, in time trials, when Feger set a new track record with a lap of 13.341 seconds. “(The car) has been real fast lately,” Feger said. “We weren’t even sure we were going to be here, but glad we came. “I thought the lap was decent, but didn’t think it was a lap record. Told back in the pits it was and thought, ‘That’s cool.’” The next race of the night was the Modifieds, and on the pole was the No. 64 car of Gary Cook Jr. Matt Goulden started second and Blake Buchholz started third. The racing at the beginning was caution-filled with spins and wrecks by several competitors, but the racers got settled in and put on a show for the fans. Cook went on to dominate the entire race and held off a late run from Jeffrey Leka. The son of Modifieds points champion Jeff Leka made a charge through the field and was reeling in Cook, but there wasn’t enough time.
