Ryan Gosling may not be vegetarian, but that’s not stopping him from ruffling feathers at McDonald’s over the company’s outdated chicken-slaughter practices. The Academy Award–nominated actor has just fired off a letter on PETA’s behalf to McDonald’s CEO Jim Skinner asking him to adopt a less cruel slaughter method that would eliminate the worst abuses currently faced by chickens who are killed for McNuggets. Ryan was shocked to find out that McDonald’s still uses a method that causes birds to suffer broken wings and legs and be scalded to death in defeathering tanks. Check out his letter to McDonald’s CEO: Dear Mr. Skinner, I was shocked to learn from my friends at PETA that McDonald’s, a company that claims to be an industry leader in animal welfare, still allows its suppliers to use an outdated chicken slaughter method that results in broken wings and legs and causes birds to be scalded to death in defeathering tanks. Many of McDonald’s suppliers in Europe already use a much more humane slaughter method that eliminates the worst cruelty. What’s your excuse? Because no federal laws govern the treatment of chickens during slaughter, the responsibility lies in your company’s hands to create and maintain a high standard of animal welfare. I hope you will agree that the time has come for McDonald’s to truly take action to reduce the suffering of chickens killed for its restaurants. I look forward to hearing your decision. Thank you. Animal advocate Ryan Gosling, who has been working closely with PETA to crusade more humane ways to slaughter chickens, recently fired out a letter to the CEO of McDonalds Jim Skinner voicing his unhappiness at the Golden Arches and their practices. Ryan's got his heart in the right place According to reports, Ryan condemned the company for allowing its suppliers to use an outdated (and cruel) chicken slaughter method. Ryan appealed for McDonalds to, “ to maintain a high standard of animal welfare,” and to, "truly take action to reduce the suffering of chickens killed for the restaurants." Even though Ryan is not a vegetarian himself, the Notebook star has been championing chickens for a while now. In 2008 Ryan also wrote a letter on behalf of PETA to the top man at KFC in Canada where he called for the company to adopt basic recommendations made by PETA on raising and slaughtering chickens. Until the battle for better treatment of animals has been completely won, Ryan will continue to speak his mind. ...

Ryan Gosling is no vegetarian, but he’s nonetheless severely upset at how McDonald’s continues to use outdated chicken slaughter practices. The 29-year-old penned a letter on behalf of PETA to McDonald’s CEO Jim Skinner . Check it out below: “Dear Mr. “Many of McDonald’s suppliers in Europe already use a much more humane slaughter method that eliminates the worst cruelty. I hope you will agree that the time has come for McDonald’s to truly take action to reduce the suffering of chickens killed for its restaurants. I look forward to hearing your decision. Thank you. Sincerely, Ryan Gosling.” In 2008, Ryan wrote a similar letter to the largest franchisee of KFC’s in Canada asking the company to update to the more humane, modern methods; just days later, the company that coordinates the purchase of chicken for all Canadian KFCs agreed to phase in the purchase of 100 percent of chicken from suppliers that use these methods. © starmaxinc.com Oh, how I love Ryan Gosling. I swear, I will sit and watch his movies over and over. His performance in The Notebook still gets me every time. He's so talented and dreamy and he has a soft spot for animals—that's why he's speaking up for chickens again . The actor is ruffling feathers over at McDonald's with a letter he wrote to their CEO, Jim Skinner, on behalf of his feathered-friends. Gosling is asking the company to ditch its cruel, outdated slaughter methods and switch to a more humane method of slaughter. Gosling writes, "Many of McDonald's suppliers in Europe already use a much more humane slaughter method that eliminates the worst cruelty . What's your excuse?" Chickens who are killed for McDonald's restaurants suffer broken bones after being dumped from their transport crates and hung upside down in metal shackles. And many of these gentle birds are scalded to death when they are dumped into defeathering tanks. Switching to a less-cruel method of slaughter, controlled-atmosphere killing (CAK), would eliminate these abuses, as chickens would remain in their transport crates as the oxygen is removed from the room—a painless process. Join Ryan and take a stand for the millions of chickens who are destined to be breaded, fried, and turned into McNuggets each year. Urge McDonald's to switch to a more humane method of slaughter today! xox -Patricia ...

©StarMaxInc Ryan Gosling is the heartthrob with a heart of gold—and now he's got a message for the Golden Arches: Stop scalding chickens to death in defeathering tanks. The Oscar-nominated actor just fired off a letter on PETA's behalf to McDonald's CEO Jim Skinner asking him to adopt a less cruel slaughter method. Controlled-atmosphere killing (CAK) , which McDonald's European suppliers already use, would eliminate the worst abuses currently faced by chickens who are killed for McNuggets. Ryan himself said it best in Half Nelson : "The only constant is change." By changing to a more humane slaughter method, McDonald's would evolve and show the world some compassion for animals.
