Pitchfork is making the leap from pixels to the page: On November 11, Simon & Schuster imprint Fireside Books will publish The Pitchfork 500: Our Guide to the Greatest Songs from Punk to the Present . This handy paperback chronologically explores Pitchfork's 500 favorite songs from 1977-2006, constructing an alternate history of the past three decades of popular music-- one that extends beyond the typical Baby Boomer-approved canon of the Clash, Prince, Public Enemy, Nirvana, Radiohead, and Outkast. From art-rock and proto-punk godfathers such as Brian Eno, Iggy Pop, and David Bowie to today's leading lights such as the Arcade Fire, the White Stripes, and Kanye West; from superstars to cult heroes; and from punk, indie, and pop to hip-hop, electronic music, and metal, we've created the ultimate playlist. Interspersed throughout are sidebars on the most vital subgenres from electro to grime to riot grrrl, along with pieces like "Career Killers: The Songs That Ended It All" and "Runaway Trainwrecks: The Post-Grunge Nadir." Edited by Pitchfork Founder/President Ryan Schreiber and Editor-in-Chief Scott Plagenhoef, and written by an all-star team of contributors, The Pitchfork 500 is the perfect book for the train ride to work, a cozy winter's night by the fireside, or extended stays on the toilet. "Politics, anyone?" Miami Premiere! BOOGIEMAN: The Lee Atwater Story (Documentary/Stefan Forbes/USA/2008) Featuring Mary Matalin, Mike Dukakis, Bob Novak, Sam Donaldson, Tom Delay, Howard Fineman, Ishmael Reed, and various other scary politicos! The epic story of a Southern boy’s rambunctious rise from humble roots to political rock star. Atwater was the godfather of modern negative campaigning. He helped elect threee Republican Presidents with the vision of politics as war. But on his deathbed, Atwater apologized for everything. Or did he? Take a political marketing history tour, and see where Karl Rove and company got their ideas. Does negative sleaze-o-rama campaining win the White House? “HILARIOUSLY SHOCKING!”—IndieWire.com “A must-see!”—Jonathan Martin, Politico.com “Atwater’s spirit roars back to life…a compelling portrait…The movie isn’t a knee-jerk lefty hit job. In fact, it shows that Atwater was a Runaway success not just because he was a devious political operator, but because, in the words of one liberal reporter Forbes interviewed, the sass-talking, guitar-playing Atwater “was the most fun man I ever met.” -Patrick Goldstein, LA Times For full info and advance tics visit www.MBCinema.com Friends from BarackObama.com get member price of $7 This event was submitted by MyBO . Bathurst - V8 driver Paul Radisich will spend the next six weeks in a wheelchair after a sickening crash overshadowed final qualifying for today's Bathurst 1000. Radisich, nicknamed The Rat, smashed his right ankle, and dislocated his left, requiring him to be airlifted in a neckbrace to hospital for observation after an awful 170km/h head-on hit into a concrete wall at the top of Mt Panorama in the HSV Dealer Team Commodore he was sharing with Rick Kelly.[more] "He may have broken both his ankles," said HSV engine guru Tom Walkinshaw. "He is in a lot of pain." In only his second V8s race of the year, Radisich came over the blind brow at McPhillamy Park and went straight on at more than 200km/h despite all four wheels locking with maximum braking. The car's throttle had jammed and he had no chance to take the fast left-hand bend, spearing straight ahead, bouncing across a gravel track intended to catch Runaway cars, and then slamming into the wall protected by two lines of tyres. It was an eerie repeat of a head-on crash at The Chase in 2006 when Radisich had also slammed head-on into a tyre barrier, breaking his left ankle and fracturing his sternum. He spent more than 20 minutes before he was cut from the car, which was eventually scratched from the race today. "We could repair the car, but we won't. There are some safety issues," team manager Erik Pender said. "We could get it back together but there is no way to know what it will ... Source: www.indiaenews.com --- 1 day ago
