The Pacers officially introduced rookies Roy Hibbert and Brandon Rush this afternoon at the Fieldhouse. Hibbert continues to say all the right things , which in his case includes ample doses of talk about hard work and defensive effort. “Obviously, being a defensive presence is one thing a big man has to make sure he does,” Hibbert said. “Shooting and scoring, that’s one thing. I just figured i'd put up a thread on this guy. He reminds me a lot of Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Not many players of his size suceed at the NBA level, granted, but when they do they are dominate. Z used to be a very good player (although injury prone) and his jump shot in the mid range area is unstoppable. I see Hibbert developing that along with post moves and he will end up a very very productive player and a defensive stopper on size alone. All he needs to work on right now is stamina and he needs to learn how to move his body better. By the way, dudes got range. I don't know why people dislike him. ... Indiana Pacers -- The Pacers did most of their work prior to the draft and on draft night, but none of it could be officially announced until July. For a team that was capped out and had no future, the Pacers found solid value for Jermaine O'Neal, fixed their problem at point guard with the addition of T.J. Ford and Jarrett Jack and added a couple of very solid rookies in Brandon Rush and Roy Hibbert. Most importantly, Larry Bird and David Morway gave themselves considerable cap flexibility starting next summer to remake this team. If they can find a home for Jamaal Tinsley and shore up the power forward position, the Pacers could be a sleeper to sneak into the playoffs in the East this season.
