Filed under: Handsets , Messaging , Rogers Wireless , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , Misc Drumroll please! We all heard a fair bit of uncharacteristic anger echoing out of Canada with Rogers Wireless' announcement of its -- and FIDO's -- iPhone data pricing models. Of course, Rogers rethought its plans, launched the $30 / 6GB plan and all was well again in the land of the polar bear and beaver. We had a quick chat with Elizabeth Hamilton, the Director of Corporate Communications at Rogers, this week, and it turns out they may not have been so completely mistaken with the plans offered after all. First month stats show that 1.2% of iPhone customers used more than 1GB of data in the first four weeks, 95% used less than 500MB, and 91.2% used less than 100MB. Considering the original plans were as high as 400MB per month, it would seem they would have served the northern populace quite handily. Permalink  |  Email this  |  Comments ...

Hi, I'm on Rogers Extreme with a Speedstream SB5101 modem. I also have a Sympatico DSL connection in the house (up to 5 mb connection). I use msn video call to talk to friends and have been getting a lot of high pitch screeching, some crackling, and a bit of video freezing on my Rogers connection. I did a test last night, using msn video call on my laptop plugged directly into my Rogers modem for 30 minutes and there was quite a bit of intermittent noise. I then tried it on my Sympatico connection (using the same ethernet cable) and there was no noise whatsoever in the same 30 minute timeframe. I ran a few speed tests on the Rogers site and the results were always about the same, except for the Maximum Pause. Quality of service was around 98-99%. The speed went from about 7000 to 8200, which is acceptable. On the 5 tests, the maximum pause was 11, 47, 61, 33 and 60. I'm wondering if this number is related to my interference problems (it's the high pitch squeals/pops that are annoying/deafening). I'm just trying to pinpoint where the problem may be (e.g. the line or the modem). Any ideas what would cause this? If you think it may be the modem, can you recommend a better one? (I dont need Wireless). Thank you :) ...
