I've had my eyes on Rob Blake in one of my keeper leagues. He'd be my 6th d-man at this point, as I've loaded up pretty well in the draft so far with solid young d-men. My only concern is +/-. Last season I finished dead last in +/- and I wasn't even close to catching the next guy up. Do any of you think Blake's +/- will improve since he's going from the doormat in LA to a Stanley Cup contender in SJ? I was looking over his career stats and saw that his +/- was decent when the Avalanche were solid, but he has always appeared to struggle in that dept. Your thoughts? ...

San Jose coach has his players buying into a new foundation that opens eyes of everyone, including veterans such as Rob Blake. 1. Dallas Stars (2) -- Lots to like about the local team going into this season. A young defensive corps got a ton of experience when Sergei Zubov and Phillippe Boucher were hurt and they didn't shrink from the task. The club goes three deep in playmaking centers, something few teams can do, with Mike Ribeiro, Brad Richards and Mike Modano. And Marty Turco finally enters a season without having to answer any questions about when he's going to win a playoff series. They won two last year. They might win three this time. 2. San Jose Sharks (4) -- Is Rob Blake getting too old to log a ton of minutes as a top defenseman? Maybe not. They still scare everyone up front with Joe Thornton. They can pretty much match Dallas in the nets with Evgeni Nabokov. --Tim Cowlishaw ...

The San Jose Sharks put defenseman Kyle McLaren on waivers Tuesday, possibly ending the oft-injured veteran's 4 1/2-year tenure with the club. McLaren, a 12-year NHL veteran, had three goals and eight assists while battling constant knee injuries last season, undergoing surgery in January. He appeared in two preseason games with the Sharks, who didn't even allow him to skate in intrasquad scrimmages while attempting to move him. "Kyle has been a tremendous professional through this," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said. "We're trying to do what's right for him, so we'll see what the next few days brings." McLaren's role with the club already was diminished before training camp when San Jose acquired veteran defensemen Rob Blake, Dan Boyle and Brad Lukowich. The Sharks also signed young defensemen Christian Ehrhoff, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Doug Murray to contract extensions in recent months. If McLaren isn't claimed by another team, he could be assigned to the Sharks' top affiliate in Worcester, where his $2.5 million salary wouldn't count against the cap. ...

Tomas Plihal scored the short-handed go-ahead goal, Evgeni Nabokov had to make just 12 saves and the San Jose Sharks beat the Kings 3-1 Saturday night, blemishing Los Angeles coach Terry Murray's debut. Devin Setoguchi and Joe Pavelski also scored as the Sharks handily beat their second straight Pacific Division opponent after opening the season with a 4-1 win over Anaheim on Thursday night. Defenseman Rob Blake had five of San Jose's 41 shots while playing another outstanding game for the Sharks, who signed the longtime Kings star as a free agent during the summer. Blake spent 13 1/2 of his first 18 NHL seasons with Los Angeles, including the past two. Alexander Frolov scored an early goal and Jason LaBarbera stopped 38 shots for the Kings, who hope to rebuild under Murray's direction after finishing last season tied with Tampa Bay with an NHL-low 71 points. ...

Before reading, please click the following link .  (Warning NSFW)   Yep, that pretty much sums it up for me right now.  How can you argue with Coach Rig in this instance?  As a note, I really wanted to find the video clip of the half-time speech, but YouTube failed me, so audio was the best that I could do.  Seriously though, every game when our offense goes stagnant, this is the clip that always pops into my head for some reason.  If you didn’t know, this clip comes from the movie Necessary Roughness , which in my opinion, is up there with Slapshot and Major League as some of the funniest sports movies ever.  How can you beat a movie with Scott Bakula, Rob Schneider, Sinbad (back when being Sinbad was cool), Jason Bateman, and the hottest kicker ever to lace ‘em up.  Speaking of which, get Kathy Ireland’s agent on the horn, stat!  She can’t be any worse than Akers, and she’s a hell of a lot better to look at while she’s blowin’ kicks.  If you’ve never seen this movie, rent it.  If you have seen it, watch it again; especially when football has you down.  Some fun Pennsylvania facts in the movie, Paul Blake was originally recruited by Penn State and the girl that plays the professor in the movie was born and raised like ten minutes from my house in Wilkes-Barre.    Anyway, on to our offensive ineptitude…  I think I’ve come up with some suggestions for Andy to implement that will keep the play calling fresh, and at the very least, ...

Be sure to look for him on the broadcast. Thoughts on Hiroki Kuroda from rom "Blue Notes," the L.A. Times blog about the Dodgers: ...when the Japanese import is on, dude typically gets into a serious, sometimes unhittable groove. But he's often the Bizarro-version of that pitcher after the first bit of trouble, more often than not tossing himself further into trouble than figuring a way out of it. In two starts against the Cubs this year, Kuroda has pitched 15 1/3 innings and allowed one earned run. In other words, we really haven't come across that "first bit of trouble" part. In his last two regular season starts, against the Brewers and the Mets, Harden walked 11 men in 11 innings. Richa?"we've already tried the walking lots of guys thing in this series and it doesn't work for us. The Dodgers are one victory away from reaching the NLCS for the first ti ...
