An estimated 250,000 people have now fled the helicopters, jets, artillery and mortar fire of the Pakistani Army, and the assaults, intimidation and rough justice of the Taliban who have dug into Pakistan's tribal areas. 10/3/08 - Firefighters across Livingston County are coming together later this month in an effort to help out an agency that assists them on an almost daily basis. Flooding last month destroyed tens of thousands of dollars in emergency supplies used by the Livingston County Chapter of the American Red Cross, which were stored in the chapterâs lower level at their Grand River facility in Howell, east of Highlander Way. While most of those losses will eventually be taken care of by insurance, the supplies themselves are used by the Red Cross when they respond to local emergencies such as house fires and flooding, and officials worried about their ability to respond in the meantime. Thatâs where local fire departments stepped in to create an event called âRe-Supply The Redâ. On Saturday, October 18th, fire stations across the county will become donation centers from 10am to 2pm for supplies like bottled water and new, wrapped blankets. Howell Deputy Fire Chief Andy Pless is a Red Cross board member and tells WHMI he only needed to ask and all of the departments stepped up. Pless says they also hope residents will make financial contributions as some of the needed supplies, such as cots, arenât easily purchased. A complete list of needed supplies can be downloaded below. (JK) ... Source: www.fibre2fashion.com --- 3 days ago

REIDSVILLE - Rising gas prices, natural disasters and the overall dire state of the economy have contributed to low blood supplies, said Bobbie Seagraves, executive director of the Rockingham County American Red Cross. The Red Cross regularly schedules blood drives, but those held during the summer months have not done enough to replenish the supply, Seagraves said. "We're not meeting our goals," Seagraves said Tuesday morning. Seagraves said rising gas prices are making people hesitant about traveling to blood drive sites. read more ...
