Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 I was living in Berkeley in 2002 when I bought my house in Austin. After five years in the Bay Area, I wanted to return to my adopted home state -- Texas -- but there was no good way to go about it. Fortunately, I'd been working in new media for about five years -- so I felt very comfortable viewing houses online. Once I'd reach a critical mass, I'd call my realtor and book a flight home. These days, many buyers expect to tour homes before they the time to visit them. Chris Brogan has a great post about what people expect from their Realtors -- and what goes into a good realtor site. When I was apartment shopping (I live in Kentucky now), I used Google Maps to check out locations -- and when I moved, despite growing up in this area, I used Google's Street View to check out the latest improvements. But it's not as simple as grabbing a 360-degree view of the home or a satellite view of the neighborhood, it's also important to make sure you find the right realtor -- and social media is a great place to do that as. Myspace, Facebook and LinkedIn offer ways to connect with people who have similar interests as you. In the digital age, much of the information we need to answer the questions we have are available -- and armed with that, we can't better make decisions. ... Source: denver.yourhub.com --- 5 days ago

The average price of a single family house in New London and Windham counties dropped more than $67,000 in the second quarter compared to the same time last year, according to numbers released Thursday by the Eastern Connecticut Association of Realtors. The past three months saw the fewest units sold -- 988 -- for the least amount of money -- $247,804,169 -- than during any other second quarter in the past five years. John Bolduc, executive vice president of the association, said he puts some of the blame on press reports that have made buyers queasy. "The media hasn't been kind to real estate and hasn't been kind to the economy," he said. "All that talk influences consumer confidence and the bottom line is consumer confidence." He said the numbers issued Thursday do not include some end of June sales activity because of the time it take to report closings through the Multiple Listing Service. The last days of any month are a popular time for buyers to close for financial reasons, he said. Condo prices actually rose by almost $14,000 from the same period in 2007, but listings for residential land dropped by more than half, from 88 in second quarter 2007 to 41 during the same time this year and the money their sales generated fell by almost 70 percent. "A lot of the land that's bought is purchased by builders," Bolduc said, "and the builders are quiet. They're sort of holding off." Camille Taylor, owner/broker of Mystic-based ERA Ta ...
