In this post about making money online as cheaply and as quickly as possible, JMMO Reader Mark shared some additional insights: I love how a genuine question made by the author results in these barely concealed “pitches” from people who are supposedly participating in the aforesaid “genuine” discussion. It’s funny and a little ironic. Personally, I’d probably [...] ...

Have you ever taken a free psychic ability test? You are not alone if you haven't. Many people take these sorts of tests online through various psychic websites around the world. Sometimes they give you examples of something that truly mean a lot to you. Sometimes you may be able to tap into an area in someone else's life that makes complete sense to you and to others, they may look and say, "How did they know that?" You have to be sure of yourself if you truly want to know the truth in all that you are seeing. Taking a free psychic ability test can help you to find out if you are psychic or not. ...

Read enough blogs about blogging in your RSS Reader and sooner or later, it will become apparent that there are some cardinal rules when it comes to blogging. However, I am here to say that there are no rules when it comes to blogging. Ethics? Yes. Rules? No. Instead, rules should be looked at as suggestions. It should be known that every blogger has their own handful of suggestions to give out to newer bloggers thanks in part to individuality. But these suggestions or guidelines should not be followed at face value. Instead, use these suggestions as building blocks and mold them into techniques or follow up suggestions that you can pass on to your fellow blogger. Here are three examples showcasing what I've learned based off the suggestions I took to heart when I started blogging seriously. Suggestion #1 Don't quote other bloggers all the time. Strictly write unique content: This piece of Advice is a slap in the face to the facet of blogging. Blogging is a form of communication and each individual should embrace the ability to be part of the larger conversation. Blogging is about linking to other bloggers, quoting them, expanding on another's thoughts, etc. Although writing unique content and keeping to yourself may be fine and dandy, all you're really doing is making yourself look like a snob who doesn't care less about what is going on outside of their sphere. Suggestion #2 Being mentioned by an A-List blogger is all that matters: ...

Reader Question: I have trouble waking up in the morning and always need several cups of coffee. I’ve been thinking about trying an energy drink to see if it works better. Are these safe? I agree that there’s nothing like a cup of coffee in the morning to get the day started. Caffeine pumps you up, stimulating your nervous system and boosting mental alertness. But you can have too much of a good thing—and energy drinks have a lot of caffeine. In fact, a new study from scientists at Johns Hopkins says that energy drinks should have warning labels about potential “caffeine intoxication.” A typical 8-oz cup of coffee has about 100 mg of caffeine, though the brew at some coffeehouses can be a bit stronger. The caffeine content of energy drinks, however, can be as high as 500 mg! (The numbers vary by brand, so check the label.) Too much caffeine can cause anxiety, nervousness, sleep problems and even heart palpitations. My Advice is to stick to coffee if you need a jolt of caffeine—and limit it to 2 to 3 cups. I want to hear from you, so e-mail me your questions at dailywd@womansday.com . Filed under: Computers , Advice , Windows Software , Mac Software , Laptops , Peripherals , desktops So you're buying a new computer? Well, you're in luck, because there's never been a better time -- they're faster, smaller, and more powerful than ever before, and they don't necessarily have to cost you an arm and a leg (in fact, plenty of decent desktops and laptops can be had for less than $500). But should you get a Mac or a PC ? Laptop or desktop ? Specs-wise, what difference does having an AMD or Intel processor make? And if you're planning on getting a laptop, how do you make sense of the alphabet soup that is Wi-Fi (802.11a, b, g, n)? Well, dear Reader, and potential buyer, Switched is here to help you wade through the spec lists you see on those Sunday circulars and help you make the best of your computer money. Take a look at our crib sheet of five things to consider when picking out your new computer, which starts on the next page, so click below.... Next >> Permalink  |  Email this  |  Comments ...

Wednesday, Rick Pitino appeared on Rome is Burning in order to promote his new book, Rebound Rules: The Art of Success 2.0 . At the end of the interview, Pitino was asked what the he thought key to overcoming serious adversity was. This was his response: "I think just not focusing in on your problems, because there are so many people with loved ones suffering from Cancer, so many people suffering from other economical problems, so many people suffering from losing a loved one. I think you have to channel all your emotions to other people's problems and how you can impact their life in a positive way and help ease their pain. I think when you start thinking about other people rather than yourself and the pain that you feel, it's great therapy for you to try and help someone else. By easing the pain of someone else, it eases your pain." It's a wonderful piece of Advice, and one that seems especially prescient right now. If you've been a Reader of this site for more than a couple of weeks, you're undoubtedly familiar with the contributions of a man known as Jerb. His actual name is Justin Bowen, and his work putting Cardinal clips on YouTube and full games on his website have made him perhaps the single greatest reason why it's easier to be a diehard U of L fan from out-of-town than at any other point in history.  On Tuesday, Justin's five-year-old son, Shawn, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia. Boy, I thought the upcoming election would be the polarizing event of the year. But the McCain/Obama showdown looks like a love fest compared to the visceral reaction to the proposed bailout plan. Tycoon readers have been understandably vocal about the credit crisis, the Paulson proposal, and the House’s subsequent rejection of the plan. As of this writing, it appears that the Senate will pass the new and improved version of the bailout plan, which comes complete with more tax cuts to send the deficit even more into the red. I thought I’d use today’s issue to compile some of the best Tycoon Reader comments and share them with you. Some of you have put forth your own bailout plans. Others of you have used our forum to rant. We welcome all of your comments. Keep them coming. Let’s focus on the solutions offered by Tycoon readers. Frank offered this Advice based on his three-plus decades in the investment business in response to Teeka’s article, “Should AIG be Saved?”: 1. Decrease leverage to a maximum of 20 to 1. 2. Each investment firm must have a qualified risk management department that is not compensated by the performance of the trading desks. 3. Management at the top has to be educated on the risk of new products and not get involved until they do understand the risks. 4. Compensation should be geared to completed transactions not on mark to market. Helmut seems to agree with Frank’s assessment that leverage is the problem he ...

Here's an email I received from a Reader: I have a job offer at a major university.  It's a blue collar job where I would be working 12 hour shifts either days or nights but not rotating.  On a bi-weekly basis I would work 48 hours one week and 36 the next.  As a benefit I would get 9 credit hours free per year (does not include distance classes).  I was wondering what kind of experiences your readers have with working full time and taking classes, what sort of sacrifices did they have to make, if anyone has done it while working shift work and any tips they might have for someone that is thinking of trying it? I am single with no kids.  The shifts are from 6 to 6.  Anyone out there with experience in this area/Advice for him? ...
