DENVER - A statement of issues and positions provided by the Democratic National Convention includes not a single reference to "Radical Islam," and its only references to "Islam" are to an imam scheduled to speak and to identify Afghanistan as where the U.S. should be battling al-Qaida, since "the vast majority of Muslims believe in a future of peace, tolerance." However, an organization has been flooding DNC delegates and Denver with copies of the video "Obsession" because members believe the threat to the U.S. is being dismissed or minimized, and the results like those of Sept. 11, 2001 ... ... In addressing the failure to date of the project to spread Western liberal values to the Middle East, Lee Harris doesn't argue as others have that the project is ill-conceived; merely that it is naive on two counts: it overestimates the potency and appeal of liberalism, and underestimates the effectiveness of Islamic fanaticism as an alternative cultural paradigm. ... In her weekly Q&A session for the New York Times Sunday Magazine, reporter Deborah Solomon conducted a strongly hostile interview with Brigitte Gabriel, Lebanese-American journalist and opponent of Radical Islam, while the headline blurb referred to Gabriel as a "Radical Islamophobe." The blurb: The best-selling author and Radical Islamophobe talks about why moderate Muslims are irrelevant, the lessons we should have learned from Lebanon and dressing like a French woman. Is the Times calling Gabriel Radical because she has an irrational fear ("phobia" or "-phobe") of Islam in general , or is "Radical Islamophobe" a too-cute way of saying Gabriel has an irrational fear of Radical Islam ? Either way, the incredibly suspicious, hostile tone of Solomon's questioning is clear. Here are some of the questions Solomon poses to Gabriel: As a Lebanese-Christian immigrant who spent her girlhood amid the bloody devastation of the Lebanese civil war, you have lately emerged as one of the most vehement critics of Radical Islam in this country. Are you concerned that your new book, "They Must Be Stopped," will feed animosity toward Muslims? What about all the moderate Muslims who represent our hope for the future? Why don't you write about them? Are you an agent of the U.S. government? Are you underwritten by the C.I.A.? When Gabriel said no, Solomon followed up: But I see that R. James Woolsey, a former director of the C.I.A., serves on the bo ... Source: www.wtopnews.com --- 3 days ago

Irreconcilable Differences? Even in California, with divorce rates hovering around 50%, the dissolution of a marriage is still looked upon as a sad and tragic event – celebrity breakups notwithstanding. Most people still believe (I hope) that one should work thru their marital difficulties and use divorce only as a last resort. The question is: Does [...] ... The consequences of escalation. How can Russia fight back? Arming Hizbollah, Syria and Iran is obvious. It can also support the Mujahadeen / Taliban in Afghanistan. Countries agreived by US / Nato policies would welcome Russian alliances. Pakistan and Iran for example. It seems no country can go it alone in our globalised world. But energy rich countries that own their own oil industries; Iran, Russia (and venezuela) can call their own shots more than others. TheUSA can rapidly recede in significance, all from little Georgia invading South Ossetia. The straw that broke the US' back... Just looking back through the Middle East Quarterly archives for Peter Rodman's past contributions. Many of his eulogizers talk about his incisive intellect and prescience. Host: Hudson Institute. Hudson President Herbert London argues in his timely and wide-ranging new book, America’s Secular Challenge (Encounter) that the pervasive culture of secularism in the United States is an inadequate response to Radical Islam. In the so-called war of ideas, London explains, our reflexive belief in relativism has handicapped our ability to thwart the inroads of fanaticism, as secular humanism has destroyed the West’s only beliefs worth defending. Please join Hudson Institute for a lunch discussion with London on this topic. ... Find more results for Radical Islam on RSSMicro.com |
