The Raconteurs may be known as Jack White’s other band, but it’s clear they are anything but just a side project. Rounding out a sold out three-night residency at New York’s Terminal 5 Sunday, the band showered the audience with its staying power, all the while battling one of the city’s worst concert venues ...

By the time a band makes it to the Kool Haus, there is a good chance that you've already missed what was great about them. The venue tends to host either bands that have outgrown the smaller capacity clubs, or bands that could once fill a hockey arena but have gone too long without a decent single to attract anything but the die-hards. The Raconteurs have managed to do both in a single shot. Thursday night's show, featuring Jack White's other band, was originally scheduled for the Ricoh Colisseum, but was recently downgraded. The Ricoh website called it a "scheduling conflict," but since nothing else was on the events calendar, it would be a good guess to say the show didn't sell as well as was expected.  The room was already almost full when backup band extraordinaire, The Sadies took the stage. Their opening set of surf-inflected country twang mixed old favourites as well as a few songs from their latest record, New Seasons . The Sadies are a Toronto institution and a must-see in cavernous club environments, but on this larger stage it is questionable whether their studied genre music resonated with the college crowd in Abercrombie and not-yet-throwback Strokes T-shirts. Was this a room full of a couple thousand of Toronto's most dedicated White Stripes fans? Do the Raconteurs have their own unique fan-base? Probably, and probably not, respectively. They are on tour in support of their second record, Consolers of the Lonely , an ...

I had the chance to catch The Raconteurs this weekend with my buddy Dave from Earvolution . I was definitely psyched to see Jack White and co. again, but I must admit, when Dave said he had an extra ticket I was almost equally excited to see what Rob Jones had in store for the gig poster. I know I've posted about it before, but Rob Jones and Jack White just have that special connection. For a few years Rob has been the exclusive artist behind the image of The White Stripes, and fortunately for art lovers that connection transfered to The Raconteurs. On the Raconteurs first go around, Rob crafted a pretty incredible series of posters capped and highlighted by two stunning posters for the band's NYE stand in Chicago. Featuring the four band mates as old cowboy kids aboard a spaced out locomotive bound, through space and time, for Nashville. The real knockout in these year-end prints for me was in the beautiful color scheme. Rendered in copper metallics on steely gray/blue sky, these posters really popped. All that description is to say that I was really excited to see Rob bring back a similar scheme for his NYC print. Instead of an incredible cloudscape, Rob has now moved the intrepid Raconteurs to old Europe. With a dodo as his co-pilot, the always smiling cowboy cruises the city aboard a tricked-out passenger pigeon. Despite that unwavering grin though, all my not be completely copacetic. One astute Expresso Beans member hypothesiz ...
