Filed under: Republicans , John McCain , 2008 President , Race During the recent flap over the McCain campaign's accusation that Barack Obama had "played the race card from the bottom of the deck," I must have missed this statement by Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manager: "We are not going to let anybody paint John McCain, who has fought his entire life for equal rights for everyone, to be able to be painted as Racist," Davis said Friday on "Today" on NBC. "We've seen this happen before and we're not going to let it happen to us." Although the notion that Obama was accusing McCain of racism has been pretty well debunked, McCain's record on fighting his entire life for equal rights for everyone didn't get a lot of scrutiny. A reporter asked McCain about it in Florida on Friday, and an awkward silence ensued. Here's the Video, followed by a little background information on McCain's claim. It seems McCain made good use of the pause, coming up with amorphous mischaracterizations of his record, and a flat-out lie. Here's the rest of his answer. Let's take a closer look at John McCain, Civil Rights Warrior. To his credit, he supported a Senate apology for slavery in October. Unfortunately, in February and April, McCain was no longer counted among the bill's supporters, and his campaign refused to comment as to why. While the moments were extremely Racist, I was expecting some more clips from primetime television, cartoons, and soaps. Most of the moments were just evidence of how some people are idiots (idiotic to think the way they do and idiotic to think that they should say something like that on television). I had other choice words in place of "idiot," but it will have to suffice -- trying to keep it clean. My favorite moment from the Video is from Jeopardy . Alex Trebek tells the Indian-American contestant, "Yeah, it hurts to miss that one" after he missed New Dehli as an answer. Got to love the Trebek. Check out the Video below and let me know what you think. Also, they play M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" throughout the Video which is a little distracting. I'd rather just hear audio from the clips. Filed under: Etc. , MPG , Nissan If you are so insecure in yourself or so proud that you are insulted by every little slight, then you have bigger problems that need to be addressed. Case in point, a new ad being run in Israel by Nissan touting the fuel efficiency of the Tiida ( sold here as the Versa ). The ad portrays some men who bear a striking resemblance to Saudis physically assaulting a Tiida in response to learning of its efficiency. While the ad is clearly racially insensitive and perhaps foolish from a marketing perspective, especially considering the region of the world where it is running it is clearly not a big deal. For Saudi officials to call for punishments to be applied to Nissan is idiotic. Being insulted by anyone is not cause for punishment. If you don't like the ad, don't buy the product. Personally I find the ad to be somewhat immature in it stereotypical depiction of Arabs, and it certainly wouldn't sway me toward this car, I wouldn't deny Nissan or any other company the right to air the ad. If you've ever wondered how to have a conversation with someone about something they did or said that you think was Racist, here's some helpful advice. The Video comes from a hip hop Video blog called Ill Doctrine , and it features Jay Smooth explaining the difference between the "what they did" conversation and the "what they are" conversation. Smooth advises viewers not to focus on who the person is but instead on what the person did. If someone stole your wallet, you would focus on the action and try to get your wallet back instead of worrying about what to call the person who stole it from you, says Smooth. He offers the same advice in dealing with those who make Racist remarks. "Treat them like they took your wallet and focus on the part that matters," he says. "I don't care what you are.
