Japanese video game developer Irem apparently has not one, not two, but three games for the PSP to be showcased in this year's Tokyo Game Show. We've already told you about Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3 ( Disaster Report 3 ), which just recently had its official website rolled out. Another Irem game, Narisokonai Eiyutan: Taiyou to Tsuki no Monogatari , has also gotten the same treatment. This new game will be at the Irem booth at TGS 2008, along with Sengoku Efuda Yuugi: Hototogisu Ran and Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3 . We don't have a lot of details about this one yet, but it's reportedly a "heart to heart RPG". Demon's Souls is a single-player, fantasy-themed action-RPG being developed by From Software (and directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, of Armored Core fame), and published by SCEJ. Though it's a new IP, the game's director and SCE producer mention From Software's RPG series King's Field - perhaps a spiritual successor of some kind? Demon's Souls will be playable at TGS , so we'll find out then, okay? Filed under: Analysis / Opinion , Gaming , Software , iTunes Man, for all of the great games on the iPhone already (I've been really enjoying Lexitron lately), what we really need is a good old-fashioned, both complex and charming RPG. Arcade games are fun and all, and they just keep getting better, but what the iPhone really needs is a sink-your-teeth-in fantasy world, complete with dragons to slay, swords and magic to wield, and XP to earn. Perilar might just be that. It's based on the old Ultima-style turn-based RPGs , and the tiled graphics aren't much to look at these days, but it sounds like good (Net)hacking, slashing, and exploring fun . We're still not talking about the peak of the iPhone's potential as an RPG machine, but Perilar looks like a good first step. And the best part is that there's a Java version out right now, so you can try before you smack down the $4.99 price. I'm definitely planning on picking it up.
