Upgraded from Beta 2 to RC1 and now XP SP3 guest take a long time to load. It appears to "freeze" but if you let it load it will finally load. ~5-10 minutes. This is happening on all the machines I have upgraded. I have upgraded the tools, upgraded to workstation 7. same problem. On a 64 bit host with a 64 bit guest this is not an issue but on a 64 bit host with a 32 bit guest it does. Also - I cannot get any sound on the XP SP3 guest. The Audio Default device is greyout, as are the other sound recording, MIDI music playback. Thanks in advance. ... Source: www.filehippo.com --- 4 days ago

NTBackup seems to work okay, It triggers a shadow copy which in turn triggers a snapshot of the vm being backed up (Which is subsequently removed as well). Am attempting to use Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2007 to achieve the same. It triggers the shadow creation which DPM then uses to backup the vm files but no snapshot of the vm is taken. Host Windows 2003 Standard x64, guest Windows 2003 standard, DPM running on Windows 2003 Standard x64. Shadow creation monitored by cmd line vssadmin list shadows, snapshot creation monitored by vmware web console. The release notes/faq do say that this has only been tested with NTBackup. Has anyone else been able to use DPM with this scenario successfully or are using a vss aware backup utility other than NTBackup with RC1 vss successfully? ... Source: www.9down.com --- 16 days ago

I am upgrading from VMware Server 2.0 beta 2 to RC1 on Vista x64 and when I click to install the Remote Console Plug-in I get the message "Browser restart required" even after restarting I.E. several times, and also restarting the computer. On the Known Issues page it mentions that on I.E. 7 you have to delete the VmwareRemoteconsole activex control. The only way I could do this was to locate the file named quickMksax.dll and delete it through Explorer, but I still get the same message. As a result I cannot open the previously installed VM's. Can someone please tell me how to work-around this problem? Many thanks ... Source: communities.vmware.com --- 18 days ago
I have a VM in production running on vmware 2.0 server beta. I noticed it was expiring on July 31s. Since this is a production VM, I'm very nervous\worried that after I uninstall\install the RC 1, what if my VM doesn't start. Some questions: Does the RC1 Expire (I think I saw another post saying it expires Oct 31st?)? What is the best upgrade procedure? Uninstall the current vmware server and install the current install from the site? What do I do if I can't start my VM's back up? Can I call paid support or is there anything I can do? I'm running windows server 2008 64 bit. Has anyone else not been able to start their vm's backup or vmware employees has this been an issue ? (I know I shouldn't be running a beta in production. However, I bought win2k server 2008, 64 bit, and I had no choice basically for these apps they could't be on the host.) ... Source: distrowatch.com --- 20 days ago

lyx - WYSIWYM (What You See Is What You Mean) document processor LyX is a modern approach to writing documents which breaks with the obsolete "typewriter paradigm" of most other document preparation systems. It is designed for people who want professional quality output with a minimum of time and effort, without becoming specialists in typesetting. The major innovation in LyX is WYSIWYM (What You See Is What You Mean). That is, the author focuses on content, not on the details of formatting. This allows for greater productivity, and leaves the final typesetting to the backends (like LaTeX) that are specifically designed for the task. With LyX, the author can concentrate on the contents of his writing, and let the computer take care of the rest. " It's two weeks (and one day), and the merge window is over, " began Linus Torvalds, announcing the 2.6.27-RC1 kernel. He continued, " finally. I don't know why, but this one really did feel pretty dang busy. And the size of the -RC1 patch bears that out - at 12MB, it's about 50% bigger than 26-RC1 (but not that much bigger than 24/25-RC1, so it's not like it's anything unheard of). " He reflected, " the pure size of the -rc's _is_ making me a bit nervous, though. Sure, it means that we are good at merging it all, but I have to say that I sometimes wonder if we don't merge too much in one go, and even our current (fairly short) release cycle is actually too big. " As for the actual changes, Linus explained: "Much of -RC1 was in linux-next, but certainly not everything. We'll see how that whole thing ends up evolving - it certainly didn't solve all problems, and there was some bickering about things that weren't there (and some things that mostly were ;), but maybe it helped. There's a ton of new stuff in there, but at least personally the interesting things are the BKL pushdown and perhaps the introduction of the lockless get_user_pages_fast(). The build system also got updated to allow moving the architecture include files ('include/asm-xyz') into the architecture subdirectories ('arch/xyz/include/asm'), and sparc seems to have taken advantage of that already." Other changes Linus highlighted included merging the UBI filesystem, as w ... Source: www.ntcompatible.com --- 22 days ago

This is the first beta release of the KDE Community edition for Linux Mint 5, codename 'Elyssa', based on 'Daryna' and compatible with Ubuntu 'Hardy' and its repositories.
