Filed under: Hillary Clinton , Democrats , John McCain , 2008 President As a follow-up to my Puma story from Sunday, I had the privilege of exchanging emails with PUMAPAC founder Darragh Murphy. For the sake of brevity, I am including the thesis from that story, followed by my exchange with Ms. Murphy. (We're not "cool" enough with each other yet to call each other "TC" and "D") Before I do that, though, let me say that, after reading a lot of what she has to say, I still disagree heartily with her, but I also really like her. She's got a real way with words, and a refreshing attitude toward discourse. I wrote a story last week about "Citizens For McCain," a group organized by the McCain campaign to get embittered Hillary Clinton supporters to vote for John McCain, and I intended to do a follow-up on Puma, the group's sister organization. One of my reader pointed out that Puma (People United Means Action, or, unofficially, Party Unity My Ass) members are more diverse, encompassing Hillary supporters who will write her in, stay home, or vote third party in November, as well as those who will vote for McCain. Our first interaction was in the comments section of that story. Here is her first comment, followed by my questions and her responses. Hi, This is Darragh Murphy, founder of Puma PAC, and the author of the essay quoted in Tommy Christopher's post. The accusation that I am a Republican has been floating around for a few weeks a ...

Filed under: Humor , Media Gazillionaire "HillRaiser" Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild , mistress of the 3,200-acre Rothschild family estate in Buckinghamshire, England and wife of British banking financier Sir Evelyn Robert Adrian de Rothschild had this to say about Barack Obama, " This is a hard decision for me personally because, frankly, I don't like him. I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him". Thanks to my friend Kevin K. over at Rumproast for this and calling it " The Most Hypocritical Thing Ever Uttered on Television ". The Best Puma-snark on the intertubes resides here , here , here and here . Thanks, Will Bower , for your unending inspiration to provide me and many others daily hilarity heretofore unknown since the advent of the internet. Here's a little taste: The PUMAs are looking for pretty people: The Just Say No Deal Coalition is putting together a commercial and they need fresh faces. Friendly faces. All they are asking from you is that you use your first name and give your city and state. They also ask that you provide a high quality photograph that focuses upon you. Personal or professional. Your confidentiality is assured. I found some candidates. "Just say Nobama!"   Permalink  |  Email this  |  Linking Blogs  |  Comments ...

Filed under: Hillary Clinton , John McCain , Videos of the Week Welcome to an all-new Videos of the Week. I've been writing about Puma all week ( click here if you missed it), so it seemed natural to dedicate this week's VOTW to the passionate former Clinton supporters, and their wayward sister, The Anti Puma . This is a surprisingly rich topic, but I also saved room for some new hilarity from Barely Political, more McCain madness, The Onion gets in on the values voter issue, and an outbreak of substance on The View. First up is a clip of a Puma rally in San Francisco. I'm sure you would agree, aside from badly needing some chanting lessons, the PUMAs put on a good show. Next up is a truly hilarious video (with an overly long intro) that has to do with Puma Action Pants? Huh? I love that video soooo much. I wonder who those girls are voting for? This next clip is Puma's introduction to the world, featuring Will Bower. It is the funniest thing I've ever seen. OK, that may be overstating it a little. You tell me. Wow, taken to the woodshed by Cavuto! How embarrassing. They should stick with Darragh for all of their TV spots. She knows how to put a professional gloss on this. OK, let's take a Puma break to check out the latest from my pals at Barely Political . Here's their take on that New Yorker cover. It's 3am. Your children are sleeping. There's a computer in the White House, it's saying, "You've Got Mail," and John McCain keeps ...

Filed under: Hillary Clinton , Democrats , 2008 President , Fundraising Update: 7 pm - I had a brief chat with Puma founder Will Bower. His reaction at the end of the story. On the heels of a week of reporting on Puma, I contacted the Clinton campaign to examine some of the group's fundraising claims, and to ask if Senator Clinton was aware of, and supported their efforts. First, Puma's claim, clearly contradicted by today's FEC filing: (from Reason.com , via Kevin at Rumproast ) We at JustSayNoDeal.com, we started an initiative before the Fourth of July to raise money to put down her debt. And within that week leading up to the Fourth of July we raised approximately $10 million. Our most conservative estimates have it at six million but we're looking more at $10 million. Our sources tell us that the debt is now less than $5 million from being in the black... we believe that by this weekend that Hillary's debt will be finished. According to the FEC, Clinton only raised $2.7 million in June, vs. $5.4 million in new spending. A spokesperson for the Clinton campaign had this to say: As far as we know, that $10 million is a fallacy. We have not seen that money. It is our understanding that these groups provide links to our website, and there is no way to track which sites those donations come from. We have received no donations from the PAC. Wow, if I was a Puma, I'd want to know where my money was going. Well, surely, Senator Clinto ...

Filed under: Hillary Clinton , Democrats , John McCain , Featured Stories , 2008 President Update: PUMAPAC founder Darragh Murphy wandered into our comments section. I'll print her comments, and a response, at the end of this story. In the course of researching that follow-up, I discovered proof of what I already knew to be true: Puma's PAC is the creation of a longtime McCain supporter. A blogger at Daily Kos connects the dots : Turns out the founder of the group, Darragh Murphy, who appeared on Faux News this morning is a long-time McCain supporter. This ridiculous idea the MSM is peddling that there are millions of feminist female Clinton supporters that are backing McCain over Obama is ludicrous on its face. Especially when it is so incredibly easy to debunk. God forbid, the Georgetown cocktail party set actually did any heavy lifting. There may be some who derive some sense of glee at this revelation, which makes the ex ...

Guest post by atdleft Over the weekend, I got angry. In fact, I got so angry I posted this at my place . Fortunately now, I’ve cooled off since then. But still, I feel so frustrated whenever I think of "Puma". After all, some of the "leaders" of this "group" used to be my friends. We were all angry about the primary, angry about the poor treatment Hillary Clinton received from the corporate media & the big blog elite, angry about the free passes Barack Obama seemed to get on everything. Our anger fueled a passion in us to work even harder for Hillary & prove the naysayers calling her a "sore loser" wrong. But as soon as primary season ended, everything changed. When I saw Hillary Clinton endorse Barack Obama, I knew what I had to do next . I knew Hillary did this not because of political expediency, but of love of country. That’s why I decided that if she could make the jump to support Obama, I could as well. It was time for me to let go of my primary anger and do what had to be done in order to elect a Democratic President this fall and save our republic next January. In the nearly two months since the primary season ended, I’ve never once thought I made the wrong decision. While Barack Obama isn’t perfect (no one is, not even Hillary), he’s a good Democrat who will make a great President. And while the corporate media loves to portray John McCain as some holy, "moderate" "maverick", the ugly truth is that he really isn’t. And while ...
