The Not-So Fantastic Four: We are coming to the end of Season 5 of Project Runw ay , and to be honest, it has been a disappointing season, overall. Talk on the street (and webosphere) is that characters overruled talent, and the quality of the work--especially coming on the heels of the Christian's and Rami's of the previous season-- has been less than stellar. With that, there was much at stake for this last episode where the designers who would make it to New York Fashion Week would be chosen. And now, my "Uncle Nick" recap... First...a Nick Verreos "Model Shout Out" Moment: I have been thinking about this for a while, so let me just get this off my hairy Greek-Venezuelan chest: It is so sad for the models to be kicked out for NOT DOING ANYTHING!!! I know it is NOT A MODEL SHOW, so people may argue and respond with a "Who Cares?". Well, the agencies who send these girls for the casting, the models who go, and so on. Why even do it, when there's always that chance you will be "auf'ed" for not even actually modeling. It's a bit ridiculous and there has to be a better way. The Challenge: After taking a drive outside Manhattan, the remaining designers, Jerell, Korto, Leanne , and Kenley , arrive at the New York Botanical Garde ns , where they are met by Tim Gunn , and another one of his "pocket gays", this time it was Collier Strong , Consulting Make-Up Artist for L'Oreal Paris. Isn't this "twist" getting a little less twisty each season it happens? (Spoiler alert, obviously) Oh, the humanity. To be in a place so remote, so primitive, that they do not have Bravo in their hotel rooms? Yes, that was my fate these past four days. To be in such a place. Sitting in a room, knowing Project Runway was on, but that I could not access it. Tragic! But I've gotten past it, thanks to Tivo. What I haven't gotten past is that once again the Project Runway producers decided to be namby pamby. OK, we already are hip to the "decoy" designer shows at Fashion Week. Each season there are more and more of them. But what is the point of winning the final four challenge if you don't get straight to the finals? And what is the point of repeating about a million times, "one of you will be out" and then wussing out on it? Really, it's not that hard. OK, now that I've gotten that out of my system... This week's episode started with Jerell being hilariously lonely and pulling a Tom Hanks in Castaway, but with citrus fruit instead of a ball. We also learn that Kenley blames Leann for not "selling" her outfit on the Runway, instead of realizing that thing was horrific. And in case you were wondering, yes, all the other designers really don't like Kenley, and the feeling is mutual. This week's challenge sounds fun: the designers are taken to the NY Botanical Gardens (a spectacular place) and given an hour to snap pictures of potential ...
