No one knows what its like... To be the sad man Another day here in Iraq.  It's already been devastating for many of us here. It's difficult because we aren't allowed to speak about what goes on with our families for fear that someone else may be monitoring everything we say and write...     A lot of the soldiers come in from the field and haven't eaten so we would like stuff to be able to make for them thats easy and reminds them of home.  Also, we cut off a lot of soldiers clothes and then they don't have anything else to wear, so we're asking for Dollar Store/WalMart type packages of underware, socks, tshirts, shorts, you get the idea. All you long-time readers will remember that letter and my watching her son while she was serving in Iraq... Yeah, i sent it out to Limbaugh and the Fox "news" volk too...but " We Support Our Troops " went as far as buying yellow ribbons with the slogan...Reich, left and center, no one really gave a fuck about them... and still don't Artie Lange is an exception though He's kind of like the Pat Tillman of comedy  and that's no exaggeration: http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2008/ 07/03/2008-07-03_ howard_ stern_comics_bombed _no_joke.html Gary "Baba Booey" Dell'Abate is another courageous individual---whilst Artie may have went there to conquer some of his inner demons---although i personally take his reason at face value: he wants to give something to the troops Although everyone is wondering why lo ...

We have quite a few HP LaserJet printers at my shop. For the last year or so, all attempts to create driver Profiles using IE 7, results in only the device settings such as the number of paper trays and the amount of memory being stored as part of the driver Profiles. All the other settings like the rather handy quick settings for single sided, double sided, portrait, landscape printing is lost and nowhere to be found. I guess I am not the only one experiencing this problem. Can my problem be cured by tweaking some of the security settings in IE 7 or in the OS it self (XP, Vista)? Or is it caused by the newer HP drivers? I will attempt later this afternoon to set up some printer driver Profiles from IE 6 on a virtual XP SP3 to see if the problem is related to IE 7. BTW, does anyone know where the HP drivers store the print settings once the drivers have been installed and configured on the client computers? I guess it must be well hidden deep inside the registry. ...

A few weeks back, we were one of many who questioned Netflix's decision to take away its "Profiles" feature, that allows a single account holder to have separate queues for different people in his or her household. For the folks who used this feature, it was quite popular, and our main complaint was the bogus language that Netflix used, claiming that removing this feature was somehow a benefit to users. Obviously, most folks who used that feature regularly thought it was somewhat obnoxious to take away a favorite feature and to tell them it was for their own good -- despite not having any plans for a replacement. However, Netflix surprised a lot of folks by actually listening to the complaints from many users and agreeing to keep the feature , though it won't promise to do any more enhancements to it. It's so rare to hear of companies actually listening to their users, that it's nice to see Netflix actually do so. Of course, Netflix could potentially make even more fans of the company by somehow opening up the Profiles platform so that others could develop for it -- now that Netflix doesn't want to do so. That may not be possible depending on how things are set up, but that could really turn what was a negative into a strong positive for the company. Permalink | Comments | Email This Story ...

Technology marketers are finding that crafting messages for specific roles within a prospect organization, rather than to the company overall, does a better job at getting the attention of key buyers and stakeholders and ultimately drives leads and business growth. By creating a segmentation strategy defined by individuals' goals and attitudes, marketers can produce more targeted messages and even tune product features and packaging. This document focuses on a key part of a role-based marketing strategy — building a role profile document that describes the role's organizational position, motivational drivers, decision-making authority, and sources of influence. ...

Exactly 46.1%. Sorry, I couldn't resist an off-topic joke... And in reality, I'm always off-topic, since I gave up on MCE a long time ago. The few posts I make are in response to other OT posts, either to suggest going to another group, or to give my idea of a solution, or sometimes both. Filed under: Misc , Blu-ray , Other formats , Internet The small but very vocal minority of Netflix customers who made use of the Profiles feature have won a battle war, and the feature will not be going away after all. In the company's blog, the red-envelope overlords explain that the plan to kill off Profiles was intended to streamline the Netflix website by removing a feature used "by a very small minority." But the resulting hew and cry was heard loud and clear, and there are no plans to discontinue Profiles. Better yet, Netflix is now taking suggestions on how to make Profiles even better. So, put away your Cafepress "I want my Profiles" shirt, wrest your incendiary cancellation letter from the postal worker and get constructive. If you've already cancelled your Netflix subscription, might we suggest a polite letter explaining how it was all a terrible misunderstanding and you now want to be reinstated at your previous rate? Considering the fact we are now only two flips of the calendar away from the start of football season (most schools must only get to August, but Notre Dame is one of the few taking the first weekend off to get the most of summer vacation), it's time to really start looking ahead at the specifics of Irish opponents.  Over the next few weeks - with the obligatory break for the 4th this Friday - Rakes is going to look at specific players and units from opposing teams that will cause the most trouble in Charlie Weis' fourth campaign.  We start off on the other side of the country with an old coach's shiny new toy. . . Player: Jake Locker School: Washington Position: QB Year: Sophomore (Red Shirt)   If Washington was a few games better in the win column last year, the Jake Locker Phenomenon would have been an even bigger deal.  He was Tim Tebow West, the Great White Hope of the Pacific Northwest, a savior to a Washington program under the merciless golf gloved thumb of Ty Willingham.  The 85th ranked recruit on Scout and 68th on Rivals, Locker was behind only Tim Tebow, our old friend Demetrius Jones and Jevan Snead as a "dual-threat" QB.  He won roughly every award a high school player in Washington could win, led his team to a state title, played defensive back in addition to his signal calling duties and was also an All-State baseball player.   His 2007 was statistically impressive while still showing plenty of room for improvement.  If ...

Section: Video , Content , Web , Websites As you can see from the message to all Netflix users above, the movie rental giant is keeping the profile feature on their world famous service.  When Netflix announced they were removing this feature, nerds around the world rioted.  When I say rioted, I mean purchased a domain name and began an internet petition. A topic which should sound familiar right about now, if you are following the Rogers/iPhone scandal. The protest also expanded to emails and phone calls, which shows the gravity of the situation for users.  However, not only have the nerds won, but Netflix’s cred will only skyrocket from here on out. Netflix just sent out the following e-mail to notify customers that they are keeping the Profiles feature: Todd on the Netflix Community Blog had the following to say: For users of Profiles, I have good news to report: we will keep the feature with no plans to discontinue it. We were persuaded by the well-reasoned, sincere responses of loyal members who very much value this feature. As someone who enjoys helping his four-year-old daughter manage her one-DVD-at-a-time, G-rated sub-account, I identified with these thoughtful pleas to maintain Profiles. Because of an ongoing desire to make our website easier to... ...
