TOKYO -- Rhythm Heaven Gold refuses to let go of the top of the charts, with the Nintendo DS rhythm game continuing its dominance in Japan sales. The title has occupied one of the top two slots in every week since its July release, and this week topped the last by 20,000. Nintendo knows it has a good thing going, and even though the game was released well over a month ago, ads on TV continue to air regularly. The long awaited realistic safari sim Afrika made its debut on the Playstation 3 at the #2 spot, but with a rather tame 38,000 in sales. Not a strong start, but with sales numbers in the top 10 generally low, it could also be a product of many gamers too busy doing their homework during the final week of the summer break, leaving little time for gaming. Below, Media Create's top 10. The list shows this week's rank, with the sales figures showing this week's numbers, followed by total sales. 1. [NDS] Rhythm Heaven Gold (Nintendo) - 76,000 / 612,000 2. [PS3] Afrika (SCEI) - 38,000 / NEW 3. [PS2] J-League Winning Eleven 2008 Club Championship (Konami) - 38,000 / 117,000 4. [PSP] Fate/Tiger Colosseum Upper (Capcom) - 34,000 / NEW 5. [WII] Wii Fit (Nintendo) - 31,000 / 2,578,000 6. [NDS] Inazuma Eleven (Level 5) - 29,000 / 71,000 7. [PS3] Battlefield: Bad Company (Electronic Arts Victor) - 26,000 / NEW 8. [NDS] Dragon Quest V (Square Enix) - 23,000 / 1,148,000 9. [PSP] Phantasy Star Portable (Sega) - 23,000 / 618,000 10. MP3 players for the Playstation Portable are literally a dime-a-dozen. However, the latest release from developer gadget2k adds a unique twist to this handheld media player . Entitled "PSP LyricShow Player", it basically displays any available lyrics for a song and synchs itself to whatever you're listening to. The only catch is that you have to download the specific .LRC lyrics file for the respective song you're listening to. The latest build of the app also includes some interface changes, making it more user-friendly than ever. To be more specific, here's a quote taken from the changelog of the latest version of PSP LyricShow Player: v0.9.7 update is purely interface. In order to adapt to its own clone of the new interface, the adjustment of the various elements of the location. Do not have to separate from the button, using HOME. (Code on your own while enriching the dialog written by the generality.) The file bundle can be extracted directly into the /PSP/GAME folder and has been confirmed to work exclusively on PSPs running on 3.xx kernels. The project's release thread includes additional information regarding the app, so don't hesitate to check it out. The Nintendo DS looks like its back on pace in Japan, outselling the PSP in the country for the fourth week in a row. With no major software releases for Sony's Portable platform in the coming weeks, it appears it will stay that way for a while. Not much in the way of change for the week of August 25 to 31, as we await the Japanese release of Infinite Undiscovery to see if that shakes things up on the Xbox side. Nintendo DS - 56,439 PSP - 41,664 Wii - 35,755 Playstation 3 - 9,775 Playstation 2 - 8,810 Xbox 360 - 3,124 ...

Well, Afrika certainly outperformed the Silicon Knights-developed import; the Playstation 3 safari game nabbed the number two spot, behind another solid week by Rhythm Tengoku Gold . Too Human debuted at #17, higher than the week's other new Xbox 360 entry, Clannad . In other news, the latest Fire Emblem for the DS rebounded after an off-week, with Square-Enix's Sigma Harmonics showing no signs of recovery. Oh, and some people bought Battlefield: Bad Company . 01. Rhythm Tengoku Gold (DS) - 76,000 / 612,000 02. Afrika (PS3) - 38,000 / NEW 03. A considerable number of naysayers in the Silent Hill fan community are – perhaps justifiably, perhaps not – up in arms over the coming release of the series’ sixth iteration, subtitled Homecoming.  The reasons are two-fold.  First, more and more fans have come to question the value of perpetual sequels for a series which has increasingly replaced innovation with derivation. Second, Homecoming marks the first Silent Hill console release to be developed not by Konami’s Team Silent but by an external developer instead, Double Helix Studios.  And a Western developer at that.  Of course, Silent Hill: Origins was ported from Playstation Portable to Playstation 2 and both of those were developed here in the States by Climax Studios.  However, Homecoming is planned for a late-September release on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Windows PC platforms which officially makes it a big-ticket, AAA item.  And we’ve spent the past week absorbing the first several hours of a preview build.  Naysayer or not, you know you want to hear our impressions. So click through for the goods. ...
