Ah, football and August — fresh cut grass, training camp, two-a-days, puking, pre-season football, the release of Madden and, about 3 seconds after that, the reports of the first Madden glitches. Unlike last year's bugfest, it's been reasonably quiet so far. But paging through YouTube on Friday I found a plethora of classic, often hilarious Madden glitches, plus one of him perhaps subconsciously drawing a wiener on the telestrator in real life. We lead off with the Madden Ambulance Montage (love that title card) above. You can watch the health care professionals (oath: "First, do harm.") in John Madden Football '92 cut a path of destruction through the uninjured players on their way to pick up the crumpled halfback — with slo-mo replay, too. Many more clips after the jump. A montage of late hits from Madden '96. *Crackle* ... "Oh no, there's a man down." Pat Summerall sounds terribly upset by the wanton 16-bit violence he's just witnessed. Playing in the Super Bowl vs. the Colts, the Bears' Rex Grossman gets hit so hard he shits a football. In the pocket, Drew Bledsoe was such a statue he had pigeon shit on his shoulder pads. Yet here he uncorks a Frank Tarkenton-on-meth rollout and hits Terrell Owens for an unorthodox score. Bonus points for the Harry Kalas impersonation. Vince Young back to pass ... Saints free safety Josh Bullocks has a bead on it and FUCK YOU FATHER KARRAS ... YOU'RE GOING TO DIE ... Matthew Polenzani (American tenor) has been on the golf course here pretty much every day. When off the links, he's singing in Don Giovanni (wretched production, I'm sorry to say). We did a public interview of him, too. And we were talking about the late Luciano Pavarotti, who was extraordinary in pretty much every way. For example, he sang lyrically, but he also sang with great power -- seldom (probably never) has there been such a combination of lyricism and volume. "How'd he do that?" I asked Polenzani. Ultimately, he said, "I don't really know. If I did, I'd be doing it myself, trust me." This reminded me -- as I told him and the audience -- of my favorite piece of golf commentary, all time. Nicklaus was at Augusta, on the 16th tee, I believe. Tom Weiskopf -- who had finished his round -- was in the booth. Pat Summerall, I believe, asked him, "What's going through Jack's mind right now?" Weiskopf said, "I have no idea. If I did, maybe I would have won this tournament a time or two." I adored that answer -- and so, when he heard it, did Matt. ... Louise Crocco, a record-setting volleyball coach who led Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons to 18 state championships, is set to be inducted into the National Federation of State High School Associations National High School Hall of Fame. She will join some pretty elite company. Of the more than 350 inductees, only 10 are from Florida. They are: Chandra Cheeseborough (Jacksonville Ribault, track), Cris Collinsworth (Titusville Astronaut, football), Chris Evert (Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, tennis, shown right), Floyd E. Lay (FHSAA administrator), Richard Pace (official), Vincent Schaefer (Miami Senior, basketball coach), Pat Summerall (Lake City Columbia, football, baseball, basketball, tennis), Don Sutton (Gonzalez Tate, baseball), Wayne Taylor (Miami-Dade, administrator), Jim Thompson (Vero Beach, coach). Notice something missing? That's right, nobody from our area has been inducted into the Hall. If you were in charge, which athlete/coach/administrator from the Hernando-Hillsborough-Pasco-Pinellas region would be your first choice to enter the High School Hall of Fame? Might it be Brandon wrestling coach Russ Cozart (my choice)? Or Jefferson football standout Rick Casares (shown left)? How about Lakewood swimming legend Nicole Haislett, Hernando football stud Jerome Brown or Pasco County legend Jim "Mudcat" Grant? Okay, people, the floor is yours ... --KEITH NIEBUHR ... Speaking of amazing video ... over the holiday weekend, I came across this snippet of a documentary shot during Super Bowl X at the Orange Bowl in Miami, where Tom Landry's Dallas Cowboys lost to Chuck Noll's Pittsburgh Steelers 21-17. It was done for pioneering SF-based collective TVTV ; and, yes, you will find amongst the "sports reporters" in this footage Bill Murray (harassing Denton's own Phyllis George, Pat Summerall and Johnny Unitas) and Christopher Guest. As it turn outs, the entire documentary -- during which you'll also find Dallas tight end Jean Fugett giving a tour of the Cowboys' locker room, starring a whole bunch of familiar faces, and center John Fitzgerald groaning about how football's real hard and stuff -- is available here , absotively gratis. During my Friday morning drive to work I had my radio tuned to ESPN radio with Mike and Mike in the morning. Their guest was current Dallas resident/former Giant Pat Summerall. He was promoting a book about the Giants in which he contributed the forward. I caught it probably in the middle of the interview, but the part I was interested in was when Mike asked Pat what he thought of the Cowboys this year. Pat responded, "I like the Cowboys alot this year!" He said they have no weaknesses. They have depth at all positions, offense and defense and special teams. The only thing that he thought may be questionable his the punt/kickoff coverage. I agree completely with him. We are locked and loaded. If anything could be addressed it would be returns, but I really think once Pacman gets back in his rhythm there will be no stopping him. Its great to see an old school football announcer like Summerall, call it like it is. He hearkens back to the days when announcers were straightforward rather than todays announcers who will do and say anything to sensationalize themselves. ... Source: www.nfljuice.com --- 77 days ago

Last friday I was on the phone with a customer looking at our Promotional Drawstring Backpacks . He told me he was looking for a quality piece made from nylon for a reasonable price. So I showed him through some of our items. Ultimately, he decided to go with the String-a-Sling Backpack . During our discussion he mentioned all he has been doing all day is going from site to site looking for the best option at the best price. He said he was on the phone with another promotional products company, and he had told them he found a company that had the same item they have on their site for .30 less per item! Always by my Side , by Jim Nantz with Eli Spielman If you are not a sports fan, the name Jim Nantz probably won’t mean much to you. If, however, you have been watching sports at all during the last twenty years, you have almost certainly heard him. Jim Nantz has been the voice of The Masters, the NCAA Final Four, NFL Football and the Superbowl during his long tenure at CBS Sports. In Always by my Side, Jim has compiled stories spanning his entire sports broadcasting career, from his youth when he would call games in his home until 2007 which saw him do what no sports broadcaster had ever done – call the Superbowl, the Final Four and The Masters in the same year. Throughout all of the stories, he ties everything back to his relationship with his father, the example and advise his father gave him and the unfortunate downward journey his father has taken as he has been consumed by Alzheimer's disease. The stories include a staggering number of famous sports luminaries including Dick Enberg, Curt Gowdy, Jim McKay, Chris Schenkel, Pat Summerall, Jack Whitaker, and his friendships with people such as former president George H. W. Bush, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Peyton Manning, Tony Dungy, Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, Mike Krzyzewski, John Wooden, and many others. The book paints a picture of a man who has worked really hard and had a lot of great breaks to become one of the most well known and respected sports ...
