Nearly 100 acres of walnut trees planted by a man for his daughter will become part of the Louisville Park system. The City used nearly $1 million in donated funds to buy the land in eastern Jefferson County along Floyds Fork. Patricia Peterson said her late husband, businessman Rolleigh Peterson, planted the orderly rows of walnuts for their daughter, Susan Peterson Trendel, beginning in 1972. The City of Little Falls may soon have a skateboard Park at the Veterans Memorial Park complex. Mayor Bob Peters announced at Tuesday night’s Common Council meeting that a site behind the softball fields is being considered for the Park. “This site is out of sight, out of sound and is perfect for our youth,” said Peters. “There is ample space to construct a skateboard Park, and there is lighting which is another plus. We hope to lay the foundation by the fall, with the ramps and jumps in place by May or June of next year.” The City has been fundraising for youth initiatives, raising $1,500 at its first-ever City-wide garage sale held in May. A second sale has been planned for Sunday, Sept. 14, at Rotary Park. As with the first garage sale, the proceeds will benefit the City’s youth. “Since the Park will be City property helmets must be worn, as well as knee and elbow pads,” said Peters. Third Ward Alderman Keith Chrisman suggested that the Common Council involve the youth in the design of the Park. “They should have some input as to what the Park will look like,” said Chrisman, adding that including them in the process may pay future dividends. “If they are involved in the process they might respect it more and take better care of it down the road.” Second Ward Alderman Kurt Ackerman asked about the cost to add the skate Park to the City’s insurance policy.
