Now we have Free Press columnist Mitch Albom weighing in on the Palestinian-Israeli issue. If the headline was "Should Kuntar be a hero?" and if Albom went on to talk about celebrating someone who bashed in a child's head as being morally reprehensible, I would support what he said. However, he speaks about Israel as if its soldiers are above reproach, and if they deliberately harm or kill a Palestinian, they will be prosecuted. ...

Covering Israeli military activities in the West Bank and Gaza has always been difficult for the foreign press. You have to sign an agreement that puts you under the control of Israeli military censors. For print journalists, it's less restrictive. But since photos and videos provide incontrovertible evidence of Israeli behavior, they're far more restrictive of photojournalists. For video journalists, that means a lot of what you cover will never be seen by the outside world. A group in the West Bank set out to remedy that by distributing video cameras to Palestinians so they could provide their own documentation of Israeli troops' behavior. When the Israelis hold themselves out as "the Middle East's only democracy," and the only semblance of Western civility in an otherwise savage region, remember this video, and remember that it documents only ...
