Friday night at Wrongbar, local scenester's Lioness put on one hell of a show. As k-os stood outside in a hood with his posse, the sweat-drenched three-piece played a live set with only drums, vocals and a thrashing bass. Combining the massive elements of Led Zeppelin with the bleeps-and-blips skinny jeans dance craze, Lioness, fronted by jaw-dropping lead singer Vanessa Fischer, seems well-poised to pick-up Toronto's coolest band-ever mantle from Crystal Castles, who are actually returning to Wrongbar November 28 for a DJ set. We'll have more here later on Lioness, including, we hope, an exclusive live set with Fischer and former controller.controller bassist Ronnie Morris and drummer Jeff Scheven (who, live, is a site to behold). Wrongbar has quickly become the best place in Toronto for seeing cutting-edge live acts. And Lioness is the best act we've seen there in some time. ... Source: eventful.com --- 6 hours ago

They featured a psychotherapist on bass, appeared at Live Aid, wrote the 1981 hit "Vienna," and starred a debonair mustache-rockin' frontman before that guy from The Killers and that guy from Gogol Bordello were even a glimmer in the NME's eye. One of their members co-wrote and provided a little producing pizazz for the perennial Lite FM holiday favorite, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" by the 1984 all-star megagroup Band Aid. Their name originally had an exclamation point in it, which is (...) - TOUR NEWS ... Source: www.sfbg.com --- 1 day ago
By Brandon Bussolini It would be hard to take someone seriously if they told you they were addicted to music. The notion of addiction might have more purchase for books or movies, but listening to music compulsively seems like a given for this generation. Music "helps" - in the broadest sense of that word: it can be restorative or push you into productive discomfort, and can help articulate feelings that might not get very far on language alone. It’s easy to listen to Love Is All ’s new album, A Hundred Things Keep Me up at Night (What’s Your Rupture), like water, two times a day easy, on the bus trying to calm down. With each listen, the disc becomes less like a collection of songs and more like a collection of vignettes, ones that seem to capture something important about what it feels like to be in the midst of your second adolescence. Vocalist Josephine Olausson knows how to throw a good tantrum, but even amid the more blown-out sentiments of “Give It Back,” her delivery is so much more than merely spiteful as she delivers the lines: “All the love I gave you, give it back / Every time I praised you, I’m keeping track / Every minute on the phone / It was only cos I felt so alone.” ... I have discovered a really cool band. Their name is Bouncer Fighter. The moniker may lend your mind to wander to a frat house band holding court in front of the Broman Senate, but donât be fooled.
