One of the genres that hasn’t really been explored on PlayStation 3 is survival horror. With the mother of all survival horror, Resident Evil , not set to release its next game until next year, fans will have to look elsewhere in the meantime. Siren: Blood Curse looks to fit right in that gap as a small TV crew heads to a Japanese village to shoot a documentary. Here’s a brief rundown from PlayStation.Blog of what to expect: An American TV crew sets out on a journey to Japan in hopes of shooting a documentary piece about a mysterious village that supposedly disappeared under a mud slide 30 years ago. Upon arrival in this village, they immediately stumble across a disturbing ritual taking place. In the midst of the confusion and terror, a siren screams out. It’s a spine chilling sound. Is it a warning to stay away? What is the meaning of it? Why do the inhabitants keep coming back to life? What is going on here? As the player, you get to experience the unique sense of fear this game delivers as you control 7 different playable characters, each character witnessing a different part of the horror and the mystery. And of course there is the unique sight jack system, which lets you see things from the perspective of your friends and even of the deadly Shibito undead, which I think really adds to the kind of horror you can experience with this game. At Sony’s E3 presentation last week, PlayStation U.S. chief Jack Tretton promised that his company’s online service would become the premiere one on home consoles. Look who's coming to the PlayStation 3! It's none other than Hothead Games ' Penny Arcade Aventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode One . The developing company has revealed that because of the huge public demand, they have decided that the episodic RPG-slash-adventure game featuring the dynamic duo of Gabe and Tycho be brought to the PS3 as well. Says Hothead CEO, Vlad Ceraldi, We keep getting emails asking why our Penny Arcade game is not on PSN... We have always said we wanted to have our games on as many platforms as possible to give choice to gamers. Let's start with the PS3's first survival horror game, Siren: Blood Curse , which has one of the most unique cost models we've ever seen. The television show game comes in 12 episodes that players can download in four-episode packs at $15, or just buy in its entirety for $40. We've yet to actually play the game, so we can't make a recommendation, but there's also a demo available, which is certainly worth trying first. The full game fills up a whopping 9 gigglebytes on the PS3's hard drive. Select PSN games are available for $5 this week only , including: PixelJunk Monsters, PAIN and Rocketmen . Wondering why there are some random episodes missing from the TV shows section of the PS3's new video download service? Many of you are, since you've been bugging us all week about it. Is it an oversight? A legal issue? A conspiracy ? No. Here's Sony's explanation: Yes we are aware of the episodes and seasons that are available. We are working closely with our studio partners to add movie content, individual TV episodes (for rounding out seasons) and also adding whole new seasons. We have already published new content twice since launch last week and will continue to add more on a regular basis. In other words, they're adding the episodes as they go, not uploading them as a single block.
