Sony has just released a mysterious new PlayStation 3 Firmware update, version 2.43, aimed specifically at Japanese consoles. Why mysterious? Sony's official PlayStation.Blog reports that the update is only "required" for the Japan region. The thing is, users in other regions can also install it, but they won't be prompted to do so, and it won't do anything. Got that? So what exactly does the update add? Sony has decided to give everyone a heads up in the direction of their respective PlayStation 3 consoles. A new Firmware update was just released (version 2.43), although it has been noted to be specific to the Japan . While those in the said region will be the only ones prompted to update their Firmware, this shouldn't cause any issues for those users outside of Japan who choose to install the new Firmware. You can manually update your system by choosing the "System Update" option found under the XMB 's Settings icon. The date was suggested by Home manager "TedTheDog" who clarified, "late October is my guess." The update will supposedly include a bug fix for freezing and network errors currently affecting Home users. Ted (just "Ted" is okay, right?) also hints that Home v1.00 could coincide with Firmware v2.50's release -- Home is currently at v0.98. Common sense, while not always a part of Sony's repertoire, tells us that Home 1.0 is the version that goes public -- we'll see.
