Oswalt (7-8, 4.56 ERA) underwent an MRI exam on Saturday that confirmed a strained left hip abductor and also revealed the disk problem. HOUSTON — Healthy again, Roy Oswalt got right back to beating the Cincinnati Reds. Oswalt came off the disabled list and struck out five in the Houston Astros' 5-4 win over the Reds on Monday night. Oswalt (8-8) won his fifth straight start against Cincinnati and improved to 20-1 in 25 career outings against them, despite giving up a grand slam to Adam Dunn. The Houston ace threw 74 pitches in his first start since aggravating a left hip injury on July 11. He went on the DL on July 19. This is kind of old news(this came out yesterday), but I've been AWOL due to personal stuff(nothing bad, just life getting in the way of bloggin) and have pretty much been out of the loop for a few days. Anyways... Roy Oswalt underwent an MRI on Saturday morning that confirmed the right-hander is still recovering from a left hip abductor strain he suffered on June 30. Oswalt was previously scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday afternoon in hopes that he could reenter Houston's rotation on Tuesday. But following the MRI results, he was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to his one-inning, 17-pitch start on July 11 against the Nationals. Link This basically just shows that the Astros mishandled Roy by letting him make the start on July 11th and now will not be able to use Roy if they wanted to until the 26th(I think). It really isn't a big deal and didn't hurt much(I'm not sure Roy will be ready to come back on the 26th anyways), but who knows when he would have been back if they would have just put him on the DL in the 1st place and let him rest the back instead of having him do the bullpen before the 11th and then start the game on the 11th. ...

He's got a back problem that lead to a hip problem and the Astros season has been in the toilet since late May, so there's no use in hurrying him along, right? Wrong. He's pitching tonight and to hear Cecil Cooper tell it, the team isn't entirely convinced he's healthy : "I'm confident that (the injury) is gone, but if he does say he feels something, you have to be extremely cautious," manager Cecil Cooper said. "You don't want to have a reoccurrence. They'll watch him real closely in the bullpen when he's warming up." This all sounds like part of Ed Wade 's gonzo plan to win the National League Central this year. In the past week, the Astros have traded for a worthless starting pitcher and hurried their ace back from what seems like a pretty serious injury. And they're still 11.5 games out of a playoff spot. I've seen some bad GM work in my time, but the speed with which Wade is destroying the Astros is alarming. At this rate, they'll be a AAA team by 2010.
