My Linux user group is putting on a one day Conference introducing small businesses and end users to free and Open source software (presentations planned include zimbra, openoffice, asterisk and of course Linux). While I am able to put together the Conference - arrange presentations, the venue, registration, etc. - I'm at a loss of how to promote it effectively. The very people I'd like to reach are a couple of degrees removed from my normal networking ties. Has anyone else done something similar or does anyone have any tips? -- "Yahoo Doré" is Who-speak for "Where the hell is my stuff?" - Howard Tayler - http://www.schlockmercenary.com/ ... The Irish Open source Technology Conference are pleased to announce the inclusion of OpenIreland , the association that represents individuals and businesses who believe that Open source and Open standards benefit the Irish ICT industry and its customers. Brian Cleland , OpenIreland chairperson commented "Open source software originated in the grassroots developer community, and it is most successful when that community is strong. We see the Irish Open source Technology Conference as a key opportunity for users and developers to come together, to share opinions, ideas and experiences, and to build professional relationships that will sustain the industry in the future. We are therefore delighted that IrishDev.com have decided to include an Open source event as part of their IXTC series of conferences." He continued "It is widely recognised by economists nowadays that strong business networks are the key to competitiveness. IrishDev.com plays a vital role in networking Ireland's software sector. Their history of delivering successful events gives us confidence that the IOTC will be an important milestone in the growth of Open source in Ireland. Indeed, the range of speakers and topics suggest that it is shaping up to be an exceptional event." The Irish Open source Technology Conference is pleased to announce that the Dublin Java User Group have teamed up as community partners to IOTC 2008. Their involvement is the second time IrishDev.com , the organisers of the Irish 'x' Technology Conference Series 2008, have collaborated with them. Barry Alistair , Conference Chair of IOTC 2008 said, "We're very pleased to have the Dublin Java User Group on board for the Irish Open source Technology Conference. We worked with Luan O'Carroll and Jake Korab on last years IJTC 2007 , and their technological expertise, market knowledge and enthusiasm to bring a world class line-up of speakers to Ireland was invaluable." One of the great things about the IJTC 2007 was how the content managed to touch so many areas when it could so easily have fallen into the trap of being very project specific. One of the underlying themes to many of the presentations was the role Open source software and Open source projects are having in driving forward software development, standardization and interoperability. Luan O'Carroll , community leader for the Dublin Java User Group said " It was pretty clear from the Irish Java Technology Conference last year that Open source has become a major force in many of the key areas that affect us as software developers on a day to day basis, but of course a Java Conference could only address a fraction what is on offer in the Open source world. ...
