From “Thriller” to “Ghostbusters” to Stevie Wonder’s funktastically timeless “Superstition,” and even Oingo Boingo’s “Dead Man’s Party,” we fully embrace music about the supernatural (EXCEPT the Santana Supernatural album — who cares if it sold like 28 copies per person — it’s still inexcusably annoying). And now we’re adding Rihanna’s highly anticipated “Disturbia” video to [...] ... Source: 80s.videosift.com --- 79 days ago
(3 votes - 0 comments - 14 views) This is one of my favorite Boingo songs. Yay! Following info. cut from Wiki: Oingo Boingo was a American New Wave band. They are better known for their influence, soundtrack contributions and high energy Halloween concerts than their chart successes. The band was founded in 1972 as a performance art group called The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo; from 1976 it was led by songwriter/vocalist Danny Elfman, who later achieved substantial renown as a composer for film and television. The group's format was changed twice. In 1980, it changed from a semi-theatrical music and comedy troupe into a new-wave octet, and shortened its name to "Oingo Boingo". In 1994, the band reshuffled its lineup, adopted a more modern rock sound and rechristened themselves Boingo. The band retired in 1995, having reverted to the name Oingo Boingo. ... It's been more than a decade since Oingo Boingo put away its eclectic brand of new wave shock music, leaving frontman Danny Elfman alone to work on movie orchestrations. Judging from the latest update, our man Danny is starting to show the signs of prolonged isolation. How do we know? He's turned to writing music for ballet. According to Southern California Public Radio, Elfman has composed all the music for "Rabbit and Rogue," a new ballet by Twyla Tharp and a co-production with the Orange County Performing Arts Center. (Click here to listen to the audio interview.) "The orchestral music that I more or less grew up on was ballet," Elfman tells the station. "Ballet made sense to me. It was the 'Rite of Spring' that changed my life. It was 'Romeo and Juliet' that made me go 'Wow!' " The production will be staged this weekend in SoCal. Afterward, Elfman's back to work that seems more, well "Elfish" -- three new films, a Broadway musical based on Harry Houdini, and music for a Cirque de Soleil show to be based in Los Angeles. Forgive me for posting another video online, but I can't get this song out of my head. You see, Fetish Con 2008 was just here in Tampa Bay over the weekend, and if Depeche Mode's "Master and Servant" isn't that convention's theme song, it damn well should be. The annual trade show for the whips-and-chains crowd attracts thousands of kinksters every year with seminars titled "Pain for Pleasure," "Polyanarchy: Power Exchange in a Multi-Partnered Relationship" and "Wax Play: Hot Fun For Everyone." There even was a B&D wedding! And of course, we have all the photos online at tampabay.com to chronicle the weekend. Click here to view there. I'm fairly sure they're safe for work. Final parting thought: Is "Master and Servant" the ultimate song for the fetish scene? What about "Slave to Love" by Bryan Ferry? "Violent Love" by Oingo Boingo? Or even "Erotica" by Madonna? What obvious songs are we forgetting? ... Source: blog.largeheartedboy.com --- 4 days ago

Christophe, belgium: hey scott, who do you wanna collaborate with for volume 2? SportsNation Scott McCaughey: I'm hoping David Wells will play some sax on the next record. Also it'd be nice if guys like Tweedy and Westerberg would get off their lazy asses and write songs for me, so I can devote more time to my true love, collecting shards. The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that many of the city's indie music venues will host Republican fundraisres this summer during the Republican National Convention. Is there any sequel in the '80s more painful to watch than "Teen Wolf Too?" Poor Jason Bateman. I hope he gets some sort of fat check every time this monstrosity from 1987 plays on cable TV. The original "Teen Wolf," starring Michael J. Fox, was pretty much a stinker itself, so how a second chapter was OK'd is beyond human comprehension. Still, if you're forced to sit through "Too," you might as well make the best of it. Enjoy the soundtrack for starters, which features a pair of nice Oingo Boingo tunes among other 80s classics. Or do what I do: Focus on the interpersonal relationship tips that can be harvested from the movie. TOP 5 PICK-UP LINES FROM TEEN WOLF TOO: 5.
