Ever since, the band has been stuck in rock'n'roll Triple-A. Not quite major leaguers on par with Coldplay, the Chili Peppers, or Radiohead, but able to fill arenas nonetheless. And even though the new Dig Out Your Soul is a welcome return to the supersonic guitars and straightforward songwriting of those early albums, OASIS’s cultural moment has passed. The brothers Gallagher won’t be getting called back to the bigs anytime soon. But for sheer entertainment value, they deserve better. It doesn’t matter that Noel has no longer got a multiplatinum platform, he still talks like everyone’s listening, whether that means beefing with Jay-Z or ragging on Radiohead. I love it. And Liam is no quote slouch either. OASIS manager Saher Abdel-Hardi agreed last week that his business should comply with the recommendations outlined by the police chief. Abdel-Hardi acknowledged getting upset one night and firing his employee who called the police. The reason, he explained, had to do with the fact he told staff to inform him if they ever notified law enforcement, which his employee failed to do. As for purportedly pushing a police officer, Abdel-Hardi said he reacted by saying “a few bad words” after a patrolman grabbed him by the shirt. Det. Lt. Leonard Campanello replied that the officer in question exercised great restraint during a confrontation that many times would result in an arrest. “I vehemently deny that (the officer) did anything to instigate the event,” Campanello said. Abdel-Hardi argued that the bartender who was cited by police for drinking close to 2 a.m. was actually sipping a Red bull and water that contained no alcohol. Campanello questioned Abdel-Hardi’s recollection, pointing out he professed to officers that he had enjoyed a few drinks that night. Later on Abdel-Hardi told the selectmen that advertising a hip hop night on a flyer in August was a mistake that wouldn’t be repeated. The double shooting occurred during a hip-hop promotion and OASIS is no longer in the hip-hop business, Abdel-Hardi said. During a lively first night of a show-cause hearing, the Board of Selectmen grilled OASIS Restaurant management on a series of unruly incidents that allegedly took place at the establishment. Last week’s show-cause hearing began with Police Chief Domenic DiMella summarizing 21 calls that police officers responded to at OASIS between Jan. 1 and July 31 of this year. Setting aside fire alarms, the incidents included: seven disturbances, one report of shots fired, two suspicious activities, one request of officers needing assistance, one burglary alarm and two fights in progress. At one point DiMella discussed an April incident in which officers responded to a disturbance and a report from an employee that a gun was displayed in the OASIS parking lot. DiMella related how the manager, Saher Abdel-Hardi, fired an employee and berated him after learning he called police. According to police reports, Abdel-Hardi then ran toward his employee, swore at a police officer and attempted to physically push past him. In his report Det. Lt. Leonard Campanello noted how Abdel-Hardi claimed to have “had a few drinks” and was “a little out of his mind” the night of the altercation. Following that exchange Campanello went into the club at 1:51 a.m. to advise the bartender no one was to have a drink, DiMella said, only to hear an employee state “hey, we’re tired and we’re going to have a drink after work, so what?” “Even without the confirmed pres ...
