An Endicott Nursing Home is fined for poor care. The Absolute Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation was fined $76-thousand dollars by the state after it found 23 deficiencies at the facility. Some of the most serious of the violations were failure to keep residents free from drugs that restrain them unless for medical treatment, failure to make sure the Nursing Home was free of dangers that cause accidents and failure to do background checks for employees. Absolute Center's administrators didn't return calls for comment. ...

As the population ages, more and more people are entering Nursing homes and long term care facilities. Before you place a loved one into one of these facilities, however, you want to make sure it is reputable and that your loved one will be well taken care of. The Ohio Department of Health routinely asseses Nursing Home facilities. Before deciding on a Nursing Home, you should consider contacting the Ohio Department of Health to request information about any particular facility. Additionally, there are numerous free resources that provide unbiased Nursing Home ratings and information. For example, one good resource is MemberoftheFamily.net , a website that rates Nursing homes with a color-coded rating system. Performing thorough research on a facility is a must. Once, you have decided upon a facility, however, it is important to insure that your loved one is being well cared for and receiving the treatment, therapy, or attention necessary. Unfortunately, some facilities are under-staffed, or not staffed with quality personnel. Others do not provide the attention residents need and deserve. The results can be tragic and the quality of life for residents can become at least demeaning and at worst painful and dangerous. Accordingly, family and friends should routinely insure that your loved one is receiving the care and attention he or she needs. To insure quality care, a Nursing Home resident's family and/or friends should become fa ...

Apparently, “Do no harm,” means keeping a tight lip on suspected Nursing Home abuse if you’re among the thousands of U.S. doctors who every year fail to report the abuse found to affect an estimated 2.1 million older Americans. This according to the Providence Journal , Rhode Island's most prestigious newspaper in article reviewing the recent failures in the medical community on reporting elder and Nursing Home abuse. The article reveals what too many Tennessee Nursing Home abuse attorneys know firsthand: Doctors are rarely the persons who report elder abuse. What’s startling, even to an experienced Nursing Home abuse lawyer like myself, is the percent reported: Only 2% of all cases of suspected Nursing Home or other elder abuse/neglect is reported by doctors. Some studies find the number even lower, despite it being the law in most states, including Tennessee, to report any suspicion of elder abuse. As our nation's elderly population grows, such a minute portion of reported abuse is appalling. Not every person in a Tennessee Nursing Home has a loving family who makes frequent visits. If doctors bound by oath will not protect their patients, who can we hope will? Despite the graying of America, not all doctors know what signs to look for to detect abuse and neglect in the elderly and fewer physicians still have specialized geriatrics training. Cases of Tennessee doctors turning a blind eye are not unknown to lawyers. Doctors sometimes ...
