Photo by Leo Stefansson Bloc Party 's new single "Mercury"-- the one that premiered recently on BBC's Radio One and could go either way in terms of appearing on their in-the-works third album -- now has some release details. The single arrives in the UK on August 11 and in America on August 12, via Atlantic . The American version is digital-only, but the UK version comes in a variety of formats. The CD version features remixes by CSS and Flosstradamus. There are also 7" and 12" versions of the single, and there is a limited Edition "disc-set" (a la Radiohead's In Rainbows "disc box") that includes all three available for pre-order now. South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford knows he bumbled a CNN Sunday talk show interview as the cable network took a look at potential running mates for Arizona Sen. John McCain and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. Sanford stammered when asked to respond to an Obama ad saying McCain is the "McSame-as-Bush" and to lay out the economic differences between McCain and President Bush. Sanford's response was transcribed by CNN as: "Yes. I mean, for instance, take, you know - take, for instance, the issue of - I'm drawing a blank, and I hate it when I do that, particularly on television." Eventually, he pointed to the North American Free Trade Agreement, but CNN Late Edition host Wolf Blitzer reminded Sanford that Bush and McCain shared support for the trade deal. Bloggers and political pundits seized on the episode as proof that a key McCain ally could not put down the criticism that McCain's election would amount to a "third Bush term." "I am an imperfect messenger of ideas. In other words, God gave me the gift of conviction," Sanford told reporters Tuesday. He noted news program guests have a couple of seconds to come up with an answer. "You try to think as quickly as you can. Sometimes your brain works well, sometimes it doesn't. But that's being human." Telefutura is once again the only American TV network carrying SuperLiga matches nationally. This is in spite of the fact that three MLS clubs made it through to the knockout stage last season, even though Pachuca won the million-dollar prize. You would think Fox Soccer Channel might want to jump in on SuperLiga to get people psyched up for the CONCACAF Champions League, which the fledgling network will air starting in August , but it seems they would rather show more Barca TV this summer. Mark Sanford has eliminated him as a viable Republican vice presidential candidate. Sanford was interviewed on CNN Sunday morning, billed by the network as a candidate on presumptive Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s short list of vice presidential options. When the governor was asked by Wolf Blitzer, the host of “Late Edition,” how McCain can draw distinctions between himself and President Bush on the economy, Sanford lost his train of thought, struggling for several seconds to come up with an example. “I’m drawing a blank, um, I hate it when I do that, particularly on television,” Sanford said finally. After a whole lot of uninteresting game demos lately, it’s nice to see a couple games show up on Xbox Live that I’m actually interested in. Right now there are demos available for both Civilization Revolution and Battlefield: Bad Company, two games that people might actually be curious about. Civilization Revolution is a new installment in the popular Sid Meier RTS franchise that was built for consoles from the ground up, while Battlefield: Bad Company is new single-player focused Edition to the popular FPS franchise. Again though, where the hell is the North American release of the Ninja Gaiden 2 demo? Yeah, I know the full game has been released, but I’m still on the fence about that one. Intel (INTC) has already had an exciting week: Monday in San Francisco, the company unveiled Centrino 2, the latest Edition of its chip set for laptop computers. But it's not exactly running ahead of schedule, according to the Wall Street Journal : A version of Centrino with built-in graphics won't be available until early August, which means Intel could miss part of the back-to-school shopping season. Does that delay, coupled with a slowing North American economy, mean that Intel is expecting a lousy summer? We'll find out this afternoon when Intel reports Q2 results and issues Q3 guidance.
