On July 25th Microsoft released Ninja Gaiden 2 DLC that included a Mission Mode for 800 Microsoft Points ($10). Due to reported achievement bugs and freezing issues this download was removed from Xbox Live on the same day it was released. The content reappeared on July 30th along with a system update that was supposed to fix the previously reported issues. Since the system update, gamers (including those of us in the IGN offices) have still experienced reoccurring freezing issues during cutscenes which render the game unplayable. Today we received an official response from Microsoft regarding the issue: Microsoft is aware of the issues that players are experiencing with the title update to "Ninja Gaiden II" and are currently working to resolve them with Tecmo/Team Ninja. New missions are coming for Ryu Hayabusa via DLC for Tecmo 's Ninja Gaiden 2 . The DLC introduces Mission Mode, a gameplay expansion that basically translates to a new campaign mode composed of 25 missions. The Mission Mode includes Karma Attack missions where the goal is to get the highest score and Survival missions where players are given only one weapon to fight off as many enemies as they can. High scores can be uploaded to the game's online mission leaderboards. Also coming in along with the Mission mode are tutorial videos detailing how to get all the crystal skulls in Ninja Gaiden 2 . There are thee videos in total, with each one detailing how to get a third of the total number crystal skulls. All of the tutorial videos are free, so if you're having trouble locating the crystal skulls, we suggest you give these videos a look-see. The Mission Mode DLC, on the other hand, can be downloaded for 800 MS Points. The Ninja Gaiden 2 DLC goes live on July 25. ...
According to players over at Gamefaqs , Tecmo has quietly added a patch update for Ninja Gaiden 2 on the Xbox 360. Not that anyone is complaining though - nonexistinghero at gamefaqs indicates that the patch seems to have fixed several of the game's previous bugs. As the forum member elaborated: Speed karma board glitch = solved You can now get on the Speed challenge board. I'm ranked 5th, although it wasn't a real speed run... it was just my Tonfa run. Game breaking glitches = most, if not all, of them seem to be solved Karma farming = solved, can't be done anymore Aside from those fixes, nonexistinghero notes that Ninja Gaiden 2 's slowdown and an issue regarding enemies getting stuck haven't occured since the patch update. Chapter 10's glitch is still there however, as are the game's loading time issues . Ninja Gaiden 2 's ahem Ninja-patch is available as an auto-update. Filed under: News When most games get patched or auto-updated, we at least have a few words from the developers about what changes the patch entails. Especially if the game in question has a myriad of technical problems that we know have not all been solved. So, to turn on a 360 and see Ninja Gaiden 2 auto-update without any news from Team Ninja, Tecmo or Microsoft feels a bit strange. Though we do know Team Ninja and Tecmo have a lot on their plates at the moment, if they had time to work on a patch, surely they had time to send out a few press releases? But we digress, any patch is better than no patch for a game that seems to run in bullet time for some bits (Chp 10's stairs) and the tubes have not let us down in their observations of some of the patches effects (though we'd've preferred official word). The game-breaking glitch seems to be solved and any old "broken" saves can now be continued. The speed run leaderboards are now actually updated each subsequent time you beat your best time, instead of just sticking with your first score forever. And while the major technical problems such as slowdown haven't really been addressed, we're glad that the game is actually beginning to approach what it should have been upon release.
