For a band that's too big for one medium, Bob Gruen's photography at least captures the New York Dolls' glamorous side. A punk rock coffee table book sounds like an oxymoron; one of the most dangerous, confrontational, aggressive genres of music being something to look over with tea from your friends at church? If Bob Gruen’s New York Dolls Photographs is on any coffee tables, some would say, it should be next to tea laced with PCP or with syringes and broken,... ...

As if to counter the severity of his last collection, Marc Jacobs's entry for spring 2009 was a crazy quilt of extreme fashion. Ruffles, belts, hats, and bracelets were piled on each model. No one single design theme emerged -- except excess. Instead ... ...

TOKYO -- Don't go into the New zombie film Resident Evil: Degeneration expecting a movie. It's more like a 90-minute-long videogame cut scene. Capcom and Sony Pictures chose Tokyo Game Show for the world premiere of the CG-animated flick based on the horror game franchise, screening the film Friday for an audience of media and game industry professionals at the show. Degeneration will play for two weeks in Japan before making its U.S. debut at next month's New York City Horror Film Festival . Wired.com's Chris Kohler and Jean Snow went to the Tokyo premiere, and presented their thoughts on Resident Evil: Degeneration below. Chris Kohler: I kept waiting for the videogame to start. Jean Snow: The videogame that we wanted to play actually came when it was all done, when Capcom showed a game trailer that looked better than the entire 90-minute film we'd just watched. Kohler:   Yeah, what does it say about Resident Evil: Degeneration when the trailer for the videogame Resident Evil 5 actually had nicer CG graphics than the movie? Videogame players are used to watching cut scenes acted out by stiffly animated marionettes that resemble Real Dolls more than real people, but will this trip deep into the uncanny valley be acceptable to the audience that watched the Milla Jovovich Resident Evil movies? Snow: I was let down by the movie's look. As you mentioned while we were watching it, it wasn't really much above what we've seen in the cu ...

A remake of Fame is taking shape, with a bunch of youngsters we've never heard of but who are probably famous to you (e.g. Kherington Payne from "So You Think You Can Dance") slated to play the star-struck kids learning about life and dancing in traffic at New York's High School for the Performing Arts (now LaGuardia Arts , and in a different location; Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis HS occupies the old site). It will be directed by Kevin Tancharoen ("The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll"). Debbie Allen may do a cameo. Next up: Saturday Night Fever starring Shia LaBeouf. ...

Mattel Inc. and Hasbro Inc. said most of their toys will cost less than $20 this holiday-shopping season as cash-strapped parents temper impulse purchases amid the U.S. economic slowdown. Mattel, the world's largest toymaker and seller of Barbie Dolls, will offer High School Musical 3 Dolls for $14.99 each and its Color Me Gemz Jewelry Box for $19.99. Spin Master Ltd.'s Bakugan collectible figures, named as one of the “most wanted” toys by the Time to Play Web site, start at $4.99 apiece. Retailers face a slowdown in consumer spending as people pay more for gasoline and food, while seeing the value of their homes decline and U.S. job losses mount. Sales during the holiday season may fall 3 percent, a BMO Capital Markets analyst said Wednesday. Toymakers usually get at least a third of their annual revenue in the fourth quarter. “The sales we're going to lose are those incremental sales, that impulse sale,” Chris Byrne, an industry expert known as the Toy Guy, said in an interview at a conference in New York. He declined to predict holiday toy sales, saying he was “optimistic.” Byrne, who's covered the toy industry for 30 years, and Jim Silver, editor-in-chief at ANb Media Inc. and former editor-in-chief and co-publisher of Toy Wishes, introduced www.TimetoPlayMag.com, a Web site featuring toy reviews, recommendations and recall information, Wednesday at the conference. Previously they picked top holiday products at Toy Wishes mag ...

Is she an ActiveRain member? No I don't see her in AZ on ActiveRain. She is a Realtor and an artist, who sells the "reborn" babies she creates. Note The woman pictured here is not the Realtor The tweet of the story from the Today Show this AM asked "Cuddly or Creepy?" Woman of a certain age ( I believe they say 40, 50, 60 more than once between the article and video) playing with realistic baby Dolls. In the video it does not say she is a Realtor. It does in the article: Bogus baby boom: Women who collect lifelike Dolls “It fills a spot in your heart,” Lynn Katsaris told TODAY’s Matt Lauer Wednesday in New York as she cuddled “Benjamin” and “Michael” in her arms. A realtor from suburban Phoenix, Katsaris is also an artist who has created 1,052 reborn Dolls and sold them to women around the world. She was one of three grown women visiting the show with five of the the bogus — but eerily realistic — babies cradled tenderly in their arms." emphasis on "realtor" added. I know long ago a member told a really creepy story on ActiveRain about running into a couple with "babies." My buyers - the Cabbage Patch Family...U won't believe this... (Members Only) That was the first I had ever heard of this... I wonder if others have run into these "babies" in homes, but that is really just the same sort of interest I have in stories I see on the front page of a tabloid in the grocery check out line. I am a strong believer in not "kissing and telling" ...

Just three years ago, the Mad Rollin' Dolls of Madison participated in their first interleague game against the Gotham Girls of New York and inadvertently set the stage for the resurgence of an incomparable sport -- flat-track roller derby. The sport had been growing in popularity nationally since it was resurrected in 2001 in Austin, Texas, but leagues in each of the cities where it had taken root operated independently, often times with different rules. ...
