The video here excerpting my E3 interview with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime includes me asking him where “ New Super Mario Bros. 2 ” is for the DS. He says it’s in Shigeru Miyamoto ’s brain. Click play for more banter on WiiWare, Wii hardware supply and more. Notice what makes him laugh! (Video will not be accessible for users logging in from Canada or parts of Europe. Our apologies… CLICK BELOW FOR A TRANSCRIPT ) Multiplayer: People were looking for “New Super Mario Brothers 2.” Where is it? Fils-Aime: It’s in Mr. Miyamoto’s brain. Multiplayer: [laughing] Well, you’ve got to get it in the development kits. What about WiiWare? It wasn’t talked about at all. What’s the story there? Fils-Aime: WiiWare continues. Every week we have New WiiWare titles coming and that’s going to continue to be the progression for quite some time. We really wanted to focus this E3 on packaged product and product that was happening in the marketplace this holiday season, so that is why WiiWare wasn’t discussed. Multiplayer: There are going to be a lot more WiiWare games, right? Fils-Aime: Absolutely. Every Monday. Multiplayer: To what extent should people be expecting there to be first-party content coming out in the rest of the year. Or is this going to continue to be primarily a third-party service? Fils-Aime: When we developed WiiWare our focus, as we discussed, was on smaller developers, brand New content, different types of conten ...

When this game came out was when I was interested to getting a DS.  Well now that I've had a DS for a couple months now it seems I should have picked it up.  I finally did yesterday and started playing.  I really like the fact it's a side scrolling 2D game made like the original Super Mario Bros.  Now the main game really doesn't use any features of the DS but there are a set of mini games that do.  I have not explored these but my son has. Colin saw the Mario on the cover and knew it was a game for him.  Apparently Mario games are for him to play.  So he was the first one to play the game and he ended up playing the mini games.  The DS is a study device so I wasn't too concerned.  I'm glad he is showing interest in games too.  once he gets better at understanding games maybe I'll pickup a console for him. ...

I was surfing GoNintendo today when they posted an interesting question: what would you like to see in a New Super Mario Bros. 2? After about two years the game is still selling like mad, and Nintendo definately knows this. Eventually we will be seeing another Mario platformer for the DS. I’ll be blunt here: New [...] ...

On Wednesday, August 6, a unique New XBLA title hits Marketplace. Braid is easily confused -- at least at first glance -- as a platformer. After all, it makes open nods to Super Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong and you do indeed jump across platforms. But Braid is actually a puzzle game. Using your time manipulation powers, you must figure out how to acquire the various puzzle pieces spread across six different worlds. ...

Nintendo is winding up for the August 25th release of Mario Super Sluggers for the Wii. To celebrate it’s taking the title to the 2008 Cal Ripken World Series which runs Aug. 8-16 at the prestigious Ripken Academy in Aberdeen, Md. The event hosts champion youth-league teams for 11- and 12-year-olds from across the United States and around the globe. According to the Nintendo press release, Mario Super Sluggers will be set up in Batting cages during the series. Players will use the Wiimote like a bat to play. Anyone stepping up to the virtual plate will earn a chance to win a free copy of the game. Members of the youth league teams will win a copy of Mario Super Sluggers if they hit the Nintendo banner on the outfield wall. Aug. 15 during the series’ semi-final game one lucky fan will score a free Wii along with a copy of the game. Each member of the winning team for the Cal Ripken World Series championship will also receive a copy of the game. ---Related Articles at Gaming Today:Mario Super Sluggers Headed to WiiNo New Nintendo Games Until AugustMario Dominates the Wii Virtual ConsoleHow Super Mario Bros.     I've been busy, which is why it's taken me so long to post something New. I managed to find a GBA SP (bright version) a couple days ago in okay condition, and I've been playing through some of my older Game Boy and GBC games. I'm really interested in the Oracle Zelda titles, so I'll be playing through them as soon as possible. The one problem with the system was the battery cover, which someone switched out for a blue one (this one's dark gray, or "charcoal"), so I had to paint it black. Oh, and along with the system I picked up Star Wars: Rogue Squadron , Yoshi's Topsy Turvy (I don't know why either), and Mario Kart: Super Circuit . I downloaded Braid on Wednesday, and I love it. You don't really get the full experience (or the ending) until you get all 60 puzzle pieces, which I did while staying up a little too late. I had to look up one of them though, which I shouldn't have done; exploring the game myself and finding these experiences is what I should be doing, not having someone else guide me through (which reminds me, you should read more about this subject on Matthew's blog ). Besides, the puzzles are simple enough once you figure them out. Plenty of "ah ha!" moments. I'm a little too tired to go into the deep narrative messages behind the game, but go and play it for yourself and you'll know what I mean. Too expensive for you? Well, you can't really put a price on Braid . Plus, who can resist so many Super Mario Bros. refe ...

For those of you who’ve been spending your summer mornings getting up and watching G4 Rewind, G4 dug up something special for you. Some retro game music goodness in the form of a live concert featuring some great Nintendo music. Set the Rewind machine for August 27th 2002. That was the day the New Japan Philharmonic gave a one-off performance entitled “Smashing… Live!” featuring the music of Nintendo’s then-killer app, Super Smash Bros. Melee. Soon after, music from this concert saw release as a CD giveaway when you subscribed to Nintendo Power Magazine and since then has become highly collectible and for good reason too, since this is a fantastic set of orchestrated game music. The disc features 15 tracks with musical appearances from Nintendo’s classic franchises including Star Fox, Donkey Kong, Zelda and Mario Bros. along with the fantastic original score from SSBM. The center piece of the album though is the Smash Bros. Great Medley, which fuses numerous Nintendo themes into a 14 minute plus symphony of legendary game themes. What this album does best is showing what great compositions these pieces were to begin with. Hearing what started out as 8-bit music transformed into an orchestral performance can be mind blowing the first time you hear it. It is also a unique document in that it is one of the earlier examples of performing game music in a live context, which is fast becoming a very big deal outside of Japan with tours l ...

Physics have been part of gaming since the start: Spacewar's little ships not only contended with their opponents' bullets, but the gravity well of the star in the middle of the screen. To careless players, the wrong move meant instant death. To more experienced pilots, the slingshot effect it created was a key tactic in not only winning the battle, but in humiliating the enemy. Dedicated physics cards exist, and we'll talk about those later on, but they're not much help at the moment. Whereas developers could support 3D graphics cards and software rendering at the same time on early games, showing off what the New cards could do without restricting their sales to the early-adopter crowd, advanced physics can't simply be treated as an aesthetic option. Either the game is built for them, or it's not. As a result, most of the games that have supported them have been restricted to unimpressive things like giving explosions a heavy shrapnel boob-job, or adding more clutter to the ground for players to kick around on their way to the next bit of actual game. Engines of industry 'Physics engine' is a catch-all phrase for the parts of the code that handle every disparate part of a physical simulation. While they have to work together for the effect to be convincing, the easiest way to see the pieces in action is to head back and look at the simpler games that only had to juggle a handful at a time. Let's use Super Mario Bros' jumping as ...

It seems Miyamoto can say so much with revealing very little but in an interview with IGN, they’ve managed to pluck out some information which may at first seem very underwhelming but when you look into it a bit, it is actually quite tasty. With out letting anything big slip, he did mention that the teams that worked on Pikmin and New Super Mario Bros. are hard at work. What could that mean? Who knows. More inside ...
